  • Apple Pay on the Web rolling out to eBay customers starting in 2018

I for one would be happy for this.  I hate PayPal and the massive fees they charge to process payments, especially for eBay auctions.  If I can set my auction to only accept ApplePay, I'd gladly trade to pool of buyers that don't have it for reduced fees for payment processing.

This sounds like something Android would do. Apple has too much class.
I don't see what the hell lack of class has to do with color options. Nothing wrong with colors, as long as they look nice.
I agree and I'm kinda sick and tired of everything Apple releases coming in silver, space gray, gold, and rose gold. I have long wanted an anodized colored aluminum iPhone like Apple did with the iPod Touch. The Red iPhone 8 looks amazing IMO. If Apple can do this with the next iPhone, I think it would work well for them.

As much as some people didn't like the iPhone 5c, I actually really liked it. I think it served its purpose very well for Apple during that time. Making it colored aluminum which Apple has lots of experience in could make it even better as I don't think it would be perceived as "cheap" looking like some said the iPhone 5c was.
I agree.  I thought the 8 looked so amazing in red that I bought it over the X.  I also saved my self some €€€€ to boot.

  • Apple's mini 18W USB-C charger may be real after all

I'm not sure I buy this rumor.  If apple bundled an 18W charger with every iDevice, that would simplfiy their portfolio and bring some additional econimies of scale to help with the cost, but Apple just released a 30W USB-C charger.  The only devices listed as compatable are recent iDevices, but currently only iPads Pro can take advantage of the full 14.5V @ 2Amp charging capability.  I can't imagine that people buying an iPhone would get an 18W charger and people buying an iPad wouldn't.  So, Apple would either have to sunset the 12W charger for the whole iPad line and hope there is a signifficant enough upsell rate for the market of Pro buyers (who would be receiving an 18W charger) to justify the engineering of the 30W charger just released, or Apple will bundle the 18W with the iPhone and normal iPad and the 30W with the new iPads pro. Both seem like an unusual proposition.

  • Apple taking Maps 'to the next level' in iOS 12

Google is good for POI things, that's the WHOLE BUSINESS (thank god they're actually good at their own job), but their map has not improved much in a long time and in my neighborhood there are 3 errors that have been there for 10 years. Their POI also are pretty horrible, half the businesses inside 1km are missing and a third of those that are there are the wrong ones!!!
And in ten years have you submitted a single correction? They make it pretty easy - it used to be really easy but they cut down on crowd sourcing edits after some spam edits.
    I've done a couple.

The last one was my chiropractor who had moved to a new location. I was standing outside his new place sending the new location, and the receptionist came out to ask if I was okay. I said, "No problem; just telling Apple Maps that you've moved."

She nodded and said, "Thank you. The things we have to think about these days. Yell, Facebook, Websites, and now we've got all these map things."

Anyway, the change came through in about two weeks, so I think the mapping team was already onto it.

I've submitted a few, and usually get a notification that my correction has been implemented within a week or two.

If Apple is smart, and we know they are, they're looking at many more ways to crowdsource and user data to speed up and automate more than just route data, but also POI. They're taking their sweet time to make sure that they don't do this in a way that violates user privacy though, which is what people often forget when they rush to tout Google's abilities over Apple's. I'd rather they take the time to do it the right way. They'll get there.
I use the "Report an issue" feature a lot as well.  Overall Apple is pretty responsive, but sometimes it takes a long time for a correction to post, and sometimes they do silly things with the report.  I once reported a duplicate POI; the map had two instances of a bakery literally 100m apart.  I reported one as a duplicate and put in the text field that there is another instance 100m to the right which is correct.  Maps informed me a few days later the error had been corrected, but then I saw Apple removed both instances...

  • AT&T more than doubles 'administration fee' on post-paid phones, tablets and smartwatches

Only in America would this happen - pure profiteering

Here in the UK none of her phone networks have silly charges like this. Our plans are also a lot cheaper plus give a lot more data, minutes & texts each month.
I just made a comment similar to this yesterday about plans in (continental) Europe:

I wish these carrieres had better pricing at the lower end of the data usage spectrum. Plans here in Europe are not much cheaper for unlimited, but they are for limited.  I pay 25 Euro ($30) for 2.5GB a month for two lines with the market leading coverage (comperable to Verizon) all taxes and fees included.  On AT&T the closest comperable is $20 per device (so $40 for two lines) and $50 for 5 GB to share.  That is $90 plus taxes and fees for two lines.  If I up my data another 2.5 GB to compare, it would cost another 20 Euro ($25).  So the same 5 GB service that AT&T charges $90+, I can get for ~$55 all fees included. This can be even cheaper if I choose other carriers with less robust coverage.
