  • Trump's 104% tariff against imports from China goes live

    Not good for Apple.
    But the people running Walmart must be ****ing themselves. This will obliterate them.

    Yep... the "green" start to the day in stocks made no logical sense. We're still looking down the barrel of a gun that's next set to go off at midnight tonight to be followed soon after by whatever China does next to retaliate. Xi is in a much better position to tough this out, by virtue of a dictatorship, complete control of media and no dissent. Xi is also helped by Trump's idiotic blunder to make this America vs. the World instead of America vs. China. We have wrested the title of Global Supervillain from Russia, no small feat in less than 3 months of Trump and no other nations will stand with us.
    Very true. China has made some inroads in South America, those will grow. I expect the EU will warm up to China. Many parts of Africa are very offended they have gotten hammered and when the Chinese ambassador comes by with some deals they will swing. Much of SE Asia has been in China’s sphere of influence since the first Trump term. This will only get stronger.

  • Apple shares clawing back, after $638 billion in value is destroyed

    @ssfe11 , @blastdoor ,
    I think you’re both right. It will be a rough patch for Apple and everyone else, but I can think of nobody better to deal with this chaos than TC & Co.

    To think this utter madman also has his finger on the nuclear button. He’s out of control but none of his team can do anything about it. Bit like Putin.
    Last night I was listening to a history podcast. the subject was Emperor Caligula. The important point was that everyone in the palace and in the Senate knew he was insane. They knew he was making stupid choices that were damaging the empire. But everyone was too busy either arguing on the floor of the Senate, and/or jockeying for their own position/power/wealth so nobody stepped in. I see similarities to today.
    Wasn't Caligula killed by his guards?
    Yes finally when no one else would step up and remove him.
