  • New report contradicts Tim Cook's remarks about iPhone panic buying

I can only speak to our experience:
We were going to hold onto our iPhone 11s until fall. But the threat of significantly higher prices pushed us to replace them with 16s last month.
We were going to get a Pro for me, which we did, and an e for my partner. We were buying them from our cell provider as they had a good deal on upgrades, but they only had one Pro and one base 16 left in stock. They were sold out of all other models. The salesman said that there had been an unexpected surge after Trump started hitting everyone with tariffs. His supplier was caught flat footed too and he wasn’t sure when they would get restocked.
We are in Canada, I can only imagine it being worse in the US.

FWIW Up here all the Apple products we get fly from Shanghai, to Kentucky where they clear customs. Then they get shipped to Windsor Ont where they clear customs again. The fear is we could get clipped by Trump’s tariffs on China AND Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on the US

  • Developers will have a hard time getting App Store users to buy directly

It will depend on the developer. RandomGuySoftware located who knows where will have trouble. But when, not if but when, Microsoft, Adobe, Steam, and other big guys set up their own sites people will go there without hesitation. Soon the AppStore will only be hosting small developers.

  • Apple's 2025 Pride Collection features a unique Apple Watch Sport Band

Why anyone would choose an analogue-style watch face on a digital watch is beyond me.  Other than that, a really nice combo.
I know what you’re saying, it does seem a bit strange. That said, most of the faces I’ve configured use an analogue clock. I just like the look. As I don’t need to track time down to the precise minute it works for me. YMMV

  • SanDisk Extreme Pro with USB 4 review: Good for Mac, avoid for Windows

The above comments prompted me to look into them further. I was not aware that SanDisk was owned by Western Digital. That’s enough to get me to stay away. True they split off early this year, but I’ll keep my distance until I know they are solid.

  • Google wants Gemini AI deal with Apple by mid-2025

What you’re saying, is exactly what people said about most major revolutionary tech. About the internet and so on. AI is actually very helpful, if asked the right prompt. AI makes for a great assistant at this stage.  Do research, get help with meal planning, help with resumes and aspects of job searches.  Helps with comparison shopping when asked the right prompts.  If used correctly, it can help people utilize there time better.

Very true. Of course NFTs, the Delorian, and Zeppelins were also hyped as great technological breakthroughs that would revolutionize everything. We really can’t tell until the industry settles down, and the market figures out what AI is going to be good for.
