  • Apple debuts subscription 'Apple News+' integrating magazines & other publications

Very surprised, and pleased that Canada is included from day one.
That said, pass. I don't read $10 worth of magazines in a year. Even throwing in top flight newspapers, I just wouldn't use it enough to warrant the monthly charge.

  • Editorial: Another F for Alphabet: Google's Android Wear OS still 'half baked' after five ...

    This is an Apple-Centric site.
The article is about the state of a competitor for one of Apple's major products.
    And this bothers you why?
Sorry, but this editorial is not about the state of a competitor. Just saying android sucks is not describing a state of a competitor. Being a fan-site is not a get out of jail free card for such an editorial.
Apparently you are not clear on what editorial means. It is not news. It is the opinion of one of the writers ot the editor. So, yes this piece is perfectly acceptable and very normal, as long as it is marked as an editorial, which this was.

A good overview of the state of Android, especially on wearables. A couple of thoughts:
Google cluelessly aimed its watch platform at nerdy, techy users, there's no hope of Wear OS ever realistically supporting a selection of either sporty or luxuriously fashionable bands.
Wasn't that what doomed OS/2 Warp? They targeted the Tech Heads, not the people making buying decisions?

Nice reference to the Potemkin Village.
Wear OS stands as more evidence that Android has very little real value outside of delivering high volumes of lower-end phone hardware that isn't very profitable.
I wonder if the next five years will see Android itself come under fire. Bloated, buggy, and marginally stable, it's ripe to be taken down. Some upstart developer will come along with a nice clean mobile OS, that drops all the spyware/crapware/adware, and annoying weirdness of Android. An OS that just works for a phone/camera/music player/game player. If someone comes up with that, and will sell it to companies for, say $5 per phone no strings attached, they will be a billionaire and Google w2ill find its revenue from Android collapsing. I get the distinct feeling that a lot of companies making phones are sick of dealing with Google's underhanded incompetence.

  • How to trace an image with your Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro -- and when not to

Or, you can use your iphone (or ipad) to take a pic of the item you want to trace and import it into your drawing program and use it as a template within the app, assuming the app you're using allows importing images and accommodates multiple layers (one for the pic you're tracing, one for your drawing layer.)
Yeah, through the whole article I kept asking myself "But why not just import it, put a layer over it, and then trace. The original doesn't move, you don't have to worry about taping the original or your iPad, and you can see the buttons on the screen so you don't have to accidentally switch them. It seems like a heck of a lot easier way to do it. In fact I've used this many times.

  • Examining Angela Ahrendts' five-year tenure as head of Apple Retail

Can't really comment about the Apple Stores. There isn't one near me so I almost never get into one. However Apple's online stores are much worse than they were.

The Hardware store is difficult to navigate to get the info you want. It pushes you to order, but makes it tough to find hard data on what you're ordering. Oh I can get infinite scrolling windows with pretty pictures and marketing speak, but hard numbers are hard to find.

The AppStore and MacAppStore are worse. A few years ago if I wanted to find a particular type of program, say a Game I'd go to Games and there would be a menu I could select RPG, or Puzzle, or whatever and get a list of those. Now if this menu is there I sure as heck can't find it. I just have to hunt through lists of programs and hop the description tells me enough to go on. Or I can try to search for Text Editor or Risk-like game and hope that it can figure it out. It usually doesn't.

Worse yet if I know what I want to buy, I can search by name. I guarantee the program I just asked for by name will not be the first hit. Usually there are several totally wrong ones that are paid placements that show up first, then there are a few obviously wrong ones, before I find the one I am actually searching for.

In these areas I can't rate Ms. Ahrendts tenure very highly.
