  • Hands-on with Apple's new Core i9 iMac 5K with Vega graphics: benchmarks and first impress...

All of that is internal as the exterior is largely unchanged from what we've seen before. The design still looks good, but with large bezels and a significant "chin," it seems near enough time for a refresh and is catching some heat for not having a new look. We understand -- it just looks a bit dated at this point after it debuted four years ago in 2015.
I don't understand the rationale with the iMac's design.  Define "dated"?  Design is form and function, and the iMac is a gorgeous-looking machine.  Compare this "dated" design to any and every current AIO machine from competitors and come back to us.

Changing it for the sake of change is just wrong.  This design is elegant and functional.  When Apple feels the design needs updating to factor in internal requirements, all the better, but the public (or more specifically tech-heads) criticizing it just goes to show that it's more about having shiny and new to satisfy their short attention spans.

That being said, this current i9 iMac is a serious and beautiful machine.  My one key gripe is that it only has two TB3/usbC ports.  It should have at least 4 like my Mac mini.  If Apple wants more folks to go to USBc, they're certainly discouraging me from doing it.

I think the design does look dated. Easily. The bezels are huge and the chin is giant. Apple could easily slim up some of these lines to make it not appear so chunky. Otherwise, I like the look of the iMac. I just want smaller bezels to look more modern. It is like looking at an older MacBook Pro that had huge bezels as well before Apple updated them.

  • Review: Apple's iPhone Smart Battery Case finally grows up

"Whichever port is used, won't work with data like video out, USB adapters, headphones, or CarPlay. Moreso, they don't support USB-C to Lightning fast charging or wireless charging."

Are you referring to the new Apple case or the knock offs on Amazon? Cuz if the Apple case won't support passthrough for CarPlay…. screw that noise.
Apple's port does work with all of those -- including CarPlay. Third party cases dont support data which includes headphones, CarPlay, adapters, card readers, etc.

Moving that hump to the bottom in my opinion makes it worse. Not only is it ugly with the camera area looking like an intrusion rather than a protrusion, and I'm sure it rocks on the table when the near top of the screen is used while sitting on a table.
There is no rocking at all while sitting on a table. It also still needs the opening for antennas and keeping the case one piece. Mophie cases had a bad habit of breaking where the two pieces went together on their cases. A one-piece design negates that issue. Far better this way.

  • All the new HomeKit gear landing in 2019

If HomeKit currently does not support wireless cameras (according to an AI article 7 Sep 2017), how did the Arlo Ultra 4K HDR manage to get HomeKit support? (I would prefer wired cameras anyway to avoid batteries.)
Great question! We asked this! Basically HomeKit requires the camera to be on all the time, which is a no-no for wireless cameras. To remedy, Arlo worked with Apple. The new Ultra 4K HDR requires a hub. This hub is what HomeKit connects to and wakes the camera when necessary.

  • Review: 'Apple Pencil 2' is a huge step forward but still not perfect

So your issues with the pencil are that it is expensive and falls off the iPad too easily?

    “Far from perfect”??
No, the problems are it falls off, is more expensive, doesn't include tips in the box, cases can't cover the side, the end discolors easily, and gestures are limited. That amounts to far from perfect.
