  • Comparing photography: iPhone XS Max versus Google Pixel 3 XL

As a XS Max user, I am pleasantly surprised given that the Pixel camera is very highly regarded.

I am interested to see the XR vs. Pixel 3 XL comparison.
The Pixel line of phones, the 3 XL included, is only highly regarded by paid-off tech media shills and YouTubers who don't have a fucking clue what they're talking about. Google was caught red-handed during their keynote of the Pixel 3 XL putting up a photo from it vs the XS Max that was obviously fake to make themselves look better, and now is proven with these real-world tests.
The only person here that "doesn't have a ..." appears to be yourself.

Google was not "caught red-handed" in their keynote during a comparison between the Pixel 3 and iPhone XS, so don't make things up.

    As for the comparison:

The feature they showed off was Night Sight, a feature that Appleinsider staff did not test in their comparison, as it, along with a number of other camera features, have not yet rolled out to the Pixel 3.

Night Sight, however, has already been shown to be very real in pre-release software. See for yourself:

  • Apple's A12 Bionic comes close to desktop CPU performance in benchmarks

It's hilarious reading some of the comments on various sites that have linked to the Anandtech article.

People are going absolutely apeshit over this. It's amazing how pissed off people are getting that Apple has designed such an amazing processor and how far ahead they are compared to everyone else.
I know right? People are losing their minds!

Just look at some of the top comments from pissed off fanboys on an Android forum:

Wow. The A12 was really undersold by Apple’s own marketing department. It really is quite the beast.

I’m going to guess the SD855 is going to at least catch up or slightly exceed on the GPU side of things, but for most other areas, Qualcomm seems to be a generation or two behind. The javascripting benchmarks were particularly embarrassing. We’re seeing even the iPhone 6s outperforming flagship android devices released this year.

What is going on in Qualcomm land?

god I would kill for an a12 in an android phone

In order to command the prices & brand recognition Apple has going for it, it has to comprehensively differentiate itself. At all levels. It's working.

Credit to Apple they've improved their sustained performance by 40-80%!

Was disappointed with their claim of only 50% GPU improvement since Apple's claims have usually been of peak performance. But this year they've accounted for sustained performance in their advertising claim

Didn't go through that section??? Spoiler alert - Avon B7 would brag about the REAL INNOVATION that Huawei has brought to the smartphone cameras. Many people in this forum who believe that Apple is the ONLY innovator would be surprised with the results there. You are NOT one of those who believe ONLY Apple can innovate, so it may not be a surprise to you. But for the knockoff commentors in this forum, it would be a surprise that a chinese company can actually innovate and move the camera technology forward.

Why should they read it? Most Apple users don't give a fuck about Android or Windows.
'Most' but not all (and I'd wager that not even most.)

Some (many?) people use both systems and have an genuine interest in what's happening in both camps.

I'd go so far to say that most phone users here (and elsewhere) actually do 'give a fuck', which goes directly against what you think.

Just take a look at some of the people posting in threads here on Apple's competitors.

Why even bother posting if they really don't 'give a fuck'?

I found his comment to be rather ironic given this is one of the front page threads right now on r/Android:

The top comments are users who are genuinely impressed with the technology, not some frivolous fanboys rioting.

  • The Apple versus Microsoft hardware double-standard rears up again with the latest Surface...

A lot of PC fanboy I know doesn't like Surface line-up either, most of them only cares about being cost effective and how to put a crap tons of LED in their case.

Heck, Surface Book 2 sucks so bad on CPU-cooling, that 13" (i7) model receives 200 point less than 13" MacBook Pro in 2018 (i5).
The Surface Book 2 13.5" is fanless in the tablet portion and uses 15 W TDP CPU. The 13" MacBook Pro has a fan and uses a 28 W TDP CPU.

Of course, the GTX 1050 in the base of the 13.5" Surface Book 2 does use a fan. It's also considerably more powerful than the Iris Plus 655.

You're paying a premium for the form factor of the Surface Book. If you're not going to take advantage of that form factor, there are well equipped laptops for less money.

Unfortunately that's not the case for Apple. If you want a laptop with macOS, you must pay Apple's premium.

  • Photo smackdown: iPhone XS Max versus Samsung's Galaxy Note 9

Both seem to have their pros/cons depending on the scenario, but I don't think either one really stands out over the other (at least not from these images alone).

I'd be curious to see how the camera on the XS compares to the Pixel 2, or the upcoming Pixel 3, as it's often regarded to be one of the best cameras on a smartphone.
