  • Samsung's Galaxy S10 guns for Apple with triple-lens camera, true edge-to-edge display

    That was the most boring tech event I have ever watched. They e brought the Brazilian YouTubers on to demo video editing and showed nothing. Then they brought on the instagram guy to take a selfie in a very awkward way. It looked like none of the event had been rehearsed.
    @crosslad   Or over-rehearsed....
    the whole thing was completely choreographed. It was appalling. And why were all the people video calling from god knows where and the camera shots of demos were clearly staged as well. All the cutting away and going to a video then cutting back. It was a shambles and I kind of felt sorry for people. They reminded me of first class airline crew on a certain Arab airline that shall remain nameless. They all try plastering a smile on their faces but you can see they’re scared shitless as if one foot out of place and they’ll be hit by a firing squad.

    Awww bless them..... they've tried their best!

    For me Samsung is like having a kid that is not the sharpest knife in the bock, they come home with something completely unintelligible, you see the pride in their eyes, and you just have to smile and give them a pat on the shoulder and try and feign approval.

    On a serious note though, they've put some effort in with their cameras, remains to be seen if they hold up.

  • Qualcomm says Apple's software workarounds undermine case against US iPhone ban [u]

    I think what Qualcomm was expecting was for Apple to take the usual route of filing to have the patents invalidated and argue they weren’t in violation for whatever reason. Instead they were smart about it. No harm no foul.

  • Samsung teases first foldable phone in new promo video

    Am I the only one who watched that and saw not a single folding display but a big dark gap, suggesting two separate displays attached by a non-display folding membrane?  Otherwise why would there be a dark area in the display?
    I thought the same thing as radar.

    Doesn't the iPhone screen bend-around on itself to allow rounded corners when viewed from above?

    It looks to be two of those very close together.  Not exactly foldable, but to be fair it is only a teaser ad...

    E.
    No the iPhone screen folds under itself to allow the display controller chip to be located underneath and thus enabling the screen to get closer to the edge - so that it didn't need the unnecessary asymmetrical chin of other manufacturers. A simple solution in retrospect, but nobody else considered it. The only remaining task is to shrink and move the truedepth modules further into the top bezel.

     I too thought the same thing regarding two separate displays.
