HomePod 'Hey Siri' responses to AirPods ad prompts complaints
NoiseArchive said:I have had a problem with an ad that says “Hey Siri, clear my schedule” and then any active alarms that I have set are disabled. When OS/2 Warp came out with voice recognition, I joked around with the PA system, and said, "Format Drive C. Yes"Didn't work, but people around me weren't amused. -
HP, Microsoft, Google follow Apple in planning China production cuts
matrix077 said:GeorgeBMac said:So we are moving production out of the highest quality, lowest cost facilities in order to support a failing, trumped up trade war?
As Winston Churchill pointed out: "Americans always do the right thing -- after they've tried everything else"The President is just the Man of Action. Others have complained about the trade deficits, and "US Loses first, then gains 'in the long run'" but it seems that the 'long run' happens after the one that negotiated has left office, or forgotten about things for the short term gain.Maybe the OP is right, but what the President is doing is at least something different than capitulation.Oh, and as for China being the highest quality, lowest cost facilities, that was said about Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. After a while the cheapest is not so cheap anymore, and manufacturers here in the US start looking elsewhere. -

Microsoft should have been Apple's challenger in mobile, says Bill Gates
tundraboy said:Was Windows Mobile (or its predecessor) free from the outset or did MS at first charge handset mfrs for it?WinCE was pretty much tied to the phone, and there were only minor upgrades (.x) available from the carrier. There was a site that had builds with different components (Solitaire, telnet, other WinCE apps from Microsoft) built in for the various handsets, but they were technically "illegal". I was a Microsoft Partner at the time, and I asked one of the Windows Mobile people about that, and he admitted they knew about the site, but the developers there downloaded some of the builds, and pretty much used it as a "see what people like" test bed.For the Windows 8 type phones, my wife tried one out, and she liked it. It wasn't the iPhone, but it wasn't a horrible phone. It did help explain why Windows 8 was the way it was. -
Bipartisan 'Stopping Bad Robocalls Act' emerges at US House
StrangeDays said:I get them usually every day. They suck.My kids and I have fun with them...When the "Medical" people call, I respond with an act that I'm on the way to the hospital, and if they can meet us at the back door. My daughter has gotten in on it with her "My head hanging on by just the sinew! Please help me!"(As stated above) the computer repair people, I follow their instructions in a Linux VM to download whatever they want me to, and I complain that it "must be really bad," because Linux isn't running my Windows Executable.I have sang, "Take me off your list" (the only lyrics to the song) to them. We time it to see how long I can last before one of us hangs up.The best one is when I was screaming at the guy (to the chagrin of adjacent traffic) (I was calm, just yelling at the top of my lungs), and the guy ("Roger", in an Indian accent), said, "Dude, you need to chill out." I broke out laughing.
