  • Parent angry Apple didn't stop 10-year-old's $2,500 TikTok spree

They are absent parents who shove their phone into their 10 year old daughter's hands to shut them up and to keep them busy. Who lets a 10 year old loose on the unfiltered Internet? Unsupervised????

They deserved the "fine" and I agree with Apple's initial decision.

Somehow not surprised that the "blame everyone but themselves" parents managed to weasel their way out of paying the charges in the end... (Insert sarcastic congratulations)

In which country do they cost $39 each, Canada? In the US they're $29 each or $99 for a 4-pack.
Article clearly states the individual lives in Dublin, Ireland.  So unless it's a misprint, he probably purchased them there for that price.

Ireland uses the Euro. Apple Ireland sells airtags at €35 each or €119 for 4. Currently that translates to $37.80 and $128.51, so I can understand the $39 as a  rounded conversion from € to $ (if that is what they were trying to do). This is the US edition of Apple insider, so presenting US pricing would make sense - the correct US 4-pack pricing makes me think it was simply a typo, a 3 typed instead of a 2. They are right next to each other after all.

Shame  on your proof reading though!

  • Apple Acoustics VP hints that Bluetooth could be holding back AirPods

Wait, you mean Bluetooth can't deliver the same audio quality as a wire?  I'm shocked!  Shocked, I say!

    :D

It's pretty funny.  After all the ragging on the the little 3.5mm TRS plug / jack combo, it's not the weak link Bluetooth is.

Sorry to be pedantic, but a TRS jack/plug will give you a stereo headphone output only.

Apple used TRRS jacks and plugs, as that gives you stereo headphone output AND mono microphone input.

All Apple wired earbuds that came with an iPhone have a microphone.

I actually wish the 3.5mm (1/8th on an inch) connector would make a comeback (like vinyl records did) on future iPhones.

Having only a lightning connector sucks when you want to use and charge your iPhone at the same time. The included 3.5mm adapter has good sound quality but no splitter, so it is either power cable or 3.5mm adapter. I tried various lightning splitters and charge + 3.5mm socket combos...  The ones with 3.5mm socket all sounded terrible, some had hissing or buzzing in the background all the time. Lightning only splitter with Apple supplied 3.5mm adapter and charging cable sounds good, but is cumbersome and not comfortable to hold for extended periods.

Why not rather create a modern digital headphone connector and socket? It could become a worldwide standard and hopefully in future become as ubiquitous on audio equipment as the 3.5mm jack.

Or failing that, consider reintroducing 3.5mm sockets on future "plus model" iPhones. The larger iPhones have more internal space and it should be possible to squeeze a 3.5mm socket in there without any noticeable impact on battery life for example.

I don't mean to take away from the positive message of this story and I love my Apple Watch as much as the next person.  But in this case, I'm sure I would say it was the Apple Watch that saved this person's life.  Truth be told, he could have done the same with any at-home portable ECG device.  To be honest, I would say that fact that he was an anesthesiologist and his medical knowledge probably saved his life more than anything else.

Anyway, it is still a positive story and I'm happy he is on the road to good health...and no doubt the Apple Watch is an incredible device whose application far exceeds that of just setting alarms and knowing the time.
I think you may have overlook a key point - "during a workout, an ECG is perform" at that exact moment in time. This is extremely useful and important. I have close buddy who suffered heart issue and went through surgery after months of inability for the doctors to diagnose what's wrong. It took the 5th attack of heavy heart pondering symptom which he was finally able to reach A&E within 15-20 mins while the symptom was still occurring for the medical team to finally pick up what is happening and acknowledge there is indeed a serious problem. He went for the first surgery within a short timeframe, and 1-2 months later, a second surgery (cause the doctor worries if his body can take both surgeries done at one go). Unfortunately, this happened before Watch Series 4 was even announced/available, and he was having Watch Series 3 back then.

To summarise, ECG is mostly only useful when done during symptom happens. This seems to be pretty common knowledge with doctors I have spoken to. Often than not, ECG done during normal times usually do not pick up many of the heart problems/diseases that ain't  having persistent/constant symptom.
Wow...that was really helpful and informative.  Indeed, I lacked this knowledge when I made the post.  Thank you for taking the time to explain to me.
Imagine if more people responded to new information like this. So refreshing.
