  • What financial analysts thought about the Apple Silicon Mac announcements

I'd like apple to come out with an affordable laptop, say an iBook, 8gb, M1 with 128gb or max 256 storage. maybe 6 core. Make the base model 699.

Agree with the thoughts that only interested apple fans will buy the newly released kit. They need to give the cost conscious consumer a reason to be interested in switching. Funky value kit with great software. It does not need to cannibalise the rest of the range, needs to be a stand-out entry point.

    Think different 🙂

  • Apple transition to own ARM chips in Macs rumored to start at WWDC

I'm going with low end laptops for Arm processors. Bring back the "Affordable" iBook name. Price around the same as iPads.

You prefer a tablet, iPad is for you. Prefer a laptop, then pick an iBook, maybe have a bunch of colour choices.....

  • Apple will continue to pay contract Apple Park workers, including janitors and drivers

Well, for what it is worth, i'm an old enough guy to remember when all the cleaners (janitors) and many others were employees of the global company i worked for. Outsourcing just pleased the accountants by moving lots and lots of employees off the payroll into a different cost centre that they didn't have to think about any more. It moved people from being personnel to resources. Maybe people should think about that for a minute. Funny that 30 years later, companies are beginning to rename resources people, if that's not ironic... what is ?

Personally i applaud this decision and hope more companies move the same way.

  • New iMac and Mac mini coming soon, says leaker

Whatever happens, Mac mini will simply be a spec update if it happens this year, so chipset & cpu.

Now that there is a new design team, i think there is more chance of the ability to do basic upgrades to the imac.

  • Read the fine print of Apple Card's customer agreement

6-7K of revolving debt is scary stuff. I'm in the UK, have 2 c/cards... one for big purchases (in the thousands) and one for daily spending. Both are cleared completely every month, no debt (no interest charges). What's the point of all that interest on a c/card ? Surely it is best to spend on what you can only afford. I guess everyone has their own ways of managing their finances. If the card comes to the UK, I'll try it out. My only concern is how good GS are at keeping your data safe, I trust Apple so they are not the issue to me. Also, how good is the banking app on the phone ? My Barclaycard one is very good, and shows transactions which are pending (have an auth against them) as well as cleared transactions. Due to that, it is my favourite. The other is with my Bank and thus is the one with the larger credit limit. Over here, the more cards you have, the more you completely screw your credit rating. For me, safety these days of my info has taken over in my mind, so it's the best app and the safest company which I will go with. If the card offers both of those, then I'll switch from one of my cards to it. GS already have had a presence in the UK for some time now with their Marcus Bank for savings which is quite popular as it has a 1.5% interest on savings accounts (yep, 1.5%, over here that is huge !!). Also, as one of the other contributors has said, cheques for payments in the UK are quite rare (same day bank transfer is now the norm), most banking here is online now, and most people use chip and pin or contactless cards (like Apple Pay on the phone). Looking forward to see what we get :-)
