A practical guide for why spatial audio music is great
I'm loving the strong opinions. Hi-Fi discussions are like car or football discussions, passionate. I used to spend lots of time auditioning and enjoying music on Analogue equipment like AR, Linn, Naim, Mission, NAD, or Quad.
Great fun, but quite time-consuming.
Then I gradually went Digital because of the huge convenience and adequate sound quality. AirPods Pro with Atmos improves on-the-go listening of the right material.
Yes, all the above comments make sense. It could be a land-grab by the mega corps. But little Jimmy, alone in his bedroom can still make it big. Little Janice might get a deal with a studio and she might use their tools to make it big spatially too.
It's a creative tool — the first stereo recordings were fairly unsubtle (Beatles). The first CD masters sucked, as did the first CD players. Give the artists and engineers time to collaborate and get creative. Spatial Audio might flop and be a fad (quadraphonic)— but it might not.
