Setting aside this embarrassing bug, I think it's clear that this monitor is not for most people. It's very nice, but also fairly expensive. I have to admit that I have no need for 5k instead of 4k. At work, I plug my MacBook Pro into a Dell 4k which I run in scaled 1440 mode and that works great.

And yet... if it wasn't for the parasites (aka children) bleeding my bank account, I'd buy this thing in a heartbeat. Sometimes it's just nice to have things that are very nice.

Running at 1440 on a large monitor is like going back to a CRT TV and watching a VHS movie from the 70’s.
What I meant by “scaled” might have been unclear. I meant it as used here:

I agree with your original post.  No one can use a 4K or 5K screen at native resolution without scaling.  Everything is too small on the screen.  I'm using a beautiful Samsung 27" 4K screen with HDR10 and USB-C connection + 95W charging and USB3 hub that cost me $300.  It has speakers that are very loud, but probably not "audiophile" if that is what the Studio monitor has.  Scaled up to make things bigger but everything looks razor sharp.  Side by side my MBP16 M1 pro, the screens look identical.  $300 vs $1500.  I made my choice and am happy with it.

  • Netflix wants to crack down on users sharing passwords

My opinion is that Netflix could make more money by lowering their monthly rate but prohibit account sharing (simultaneous streaming.) I would probably subscribe if they did that. If I had a family of twelve, I would probably like the account sharing surcharge, but I don't.

Just for testing, they could introduce an account type that was cheaper but blocked sharing. See how popular it would be.
How about a single screen plan that allows HD quality?  Who wants to watch anything in less-than-HD?  So you're forced into the 2-screen plan to get basic HD quality.  Given 2 screens, guess what people are going to do?  Yes, share the other screen (they never use) with a friend.  Is Netflix that dumb?

Assume this will be based on IP addresses? My daughter is in another state and is sharing our family account. I’ll be moderately annoyed if we have to pay extra for her.
Netflix does not have a family account plan.  Are you self-labeling your Netflix account as a "family" account?

  • Satechi Type-C Aluminum Monitor Stand Hub review: Make your workspace more comfortable and...

Try as I might, I can't find a picture of the back of the unit.  I would assume there is a connecting cable out the back of this stand that connects to the iMac and you don't have to use the front port for that?

Every picture of the unit shows no cables attached to the stand.

  • Apple's M1 Ultra combines two M1 Max into a powerhouse chip

Nice to see my Mac Mini M1 didn't depreciate as much today as I had anticipated.  $1999 doesn't exactly attract the same crowd as the $700-$800 Mac Mini M1.  Would have been nice to see a M1 Pro Mini for $1000.
