Review: Microsoft's Surface Book 2 is expensive with mediocre performance
The reason the price of the SB2 is so high is because Microsoft is following Apple's example of ripping off the consumer on SSD upgrades.
To upgrade from a 512GB SSD to a 1TB SSD is $500. That is truly robbery when the retail price of some of the fastest PCI-e / NVMe SSD's are just around $120 for 1TB! Surely MS gets cheaper prices. I lose respect for companies that blatantly rip off the consumer on BTO upgrades, notably when the consumer can't upgrade the item because they're glued shut or soldered parts.
Same SB2 with 512GB is $2499.
How about comparing the new Dell XPS 15 (7590) to the MBP 15?
For $1660 from Dell you get:
SPEC:- Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
- 15.6" 4K OLED Display 100% DCI-P3, 400 Nits
- i7-9750H 2.6 GHz (4.5 GHz Turbo, 12MB cache)
- 16GB (8GBx2) DDR4L 2666 MHz Ram (64GB max)
- 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD
- GTX 1650 4Gb GDDR5 Graphics
- 720P HD WebCam
- Backlit Keyboard
- 2x 2W Speakers
- Killer Wi-Fi 6 AC1650 (2x2) Gigabit + Bluetooth 5.0
- McAfee LiveSafe 12 Month Subscription
- PORTS:
- 2x USB 3.0
- 1x USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 /w Thunderbolt 3 (4 Lanes)
- 1x HDMI 2.0
- 1x SDXC Card Reader
- 1x Audio Combo Jack
- 6 Cell 97 WHr battery

How about it? -
Apple predicted to launch a 5G MacBook Pro in 2020
ravnorodom said:Nice. Finally a MacBook that has cellular chip. I wonder why in the past years laptops in general don't have cellular built-in except mobile devices and tablets only. In today's age, we need it. I used to setup hotspot from my iPhone for my MacBook. But I couldn't now because I upgraded to unlimited cellular data and the hotspot feature is disabled from carrier. A G5 MacBook would fill that need.
Most unlimited plans I've seen have limited hotspot (usually pretty generous), not completely disabled hotspot. I'd look for a different carrier!
WWAN used to be a much-wanted feature years ago, but not so much any more. -
Apple asks White House not to apply tariffs to Mac Pro parts
StrangeDays said:jumpcutter said:Tim Cook has angered a lot of low-end professionals with this overpriced and underpowered Mac Pro entry-level machine. The entry-level iMac Pro has better specs than the Mac Pro. Apple has killed some of the independent professional users by this ridiculous price for the computer and the monitor without a stand. Of course, the cost of the monitor stand is a bit insane. So what can the tariffs do to the price of this ridiculously priced machine but make it more expensive! I believe Apple deserves whatever comes it's way because of their pricing policies. Tim had talked to the President and should have been able to gauge his personality and demeanor towards China. Apple insists on doing business with China despite the economic tug of war. Greed eventually will bite you in the butt!
Anything else you want to get completely wrong?
An 8 core XEON with 256GB SSD and an aging AMD RX580 for $6000 is nowhere near "powerful" and is laughable. It's an insult to anyone who hands over their credit card to buy this base model. -
Apple Card is here, find out all you need to know
AppleExposed said:This is gonna be revolutionary I just feel it.ITGUYINSD said:I've got lots of credit cards that have apps on my iPhone, that I can lock, that I can make payments on my phone, see transactions, etc.
I'm just not clear what is so special (except for a metal card) about this card? In a nutshell, why would I want this card when I already have half a dozen other cards?
Hey 1-poster. Maybe just Maybe it's from Apple, will make life easier and integrate with Apple.
There's no reason knocking sense into these guys. Every time Apple announces a revolutionary product we get the pessimists.
Reminds me of the people who didn't need an iPhone because they already had an iPod and a samsung flip phone.
Thank you for taking the time to explain. /s
