  • LA Apple Store looted during anti-ICE protests

I deleted a comment because it was going to become the talking point of this thread and create an argument around it. We're not going to tolerate posts that suggest there's an "invasion" or violent riots in LA. Take the propaganda elsewhere.

Actions of a few individuals capitalizing on chaos to loot are not the problem. Illegal actions by the United States President against protesting citizens is the problem. Going after people working at Home Depot or attending court about their impending citizenship is the problem. Zip tying children and hiding your badge while performing inhumane actions is the problem.

Suggesting otherwise is not only offensive and stupid, it's off topic. So unless you're here to talk about Apple boarding up an Apple Store after a looting, keep it to yourself.

  • Apple TV+ is about art more than iPhone sales says Tim Cook

Quite sad that he lets Craig be grilled by Joanna Stern while he makes himself comfortable with F1.
Tim Cook should have had the interview with Joanna.
Others are showing an advanced progress with AI-strategies while Tim Cook promotes some stone-aged "nothing burgers".
    Poor Tim.
idk what it is, but this obsession with Tim Cook is a bit disturbing. He's the CEO, not a magical wizard that can snap his fingers and make your worries go away. Let's focus on the topics of these posts and not how you feel about your false narrative around Cook.

I'm not sure what he's done that's so bad, but you're never particularly specific either. Apple's stock has always been very undervalued, that's not on Cook. Apple Intelligence isn't chasing fads, so it's getting bad press (and Image Playgrounds is terrible), but that also isn't Cook.

Not sure what the issue is, but let's chill with the anti-tim post on every single forum thread.

Might have been a bug, thanks for pointing out the captions issue.

  • LA Apple Store looted during anti-ICE protests

It infuriates me when opportunists engage in criminal acts at times like this. No matter what the underlying protests are about, events like this negatively impact the perception of those protests. In this case, you know for a dead certainty that this will be used to justify sending in the Marines and the National Guard.
While destruction of property and looting are always inconvenient, media and those that want to demonize protests often use them as the crux of their coverage. Instead of focusing on the atrocities that brought about the civil unrest, they talk about a teen throwing a brick.

We can live with looting in an Apple Store. We can't live with the downfall of democracy. But what are some news resources focused on?

(Obviously we focused on the Apple Store being looted because it's our beat, but we used it as a way to point out why it was happening instead of demonizing the event. Note the difference. This escalation is 100% on Trump and his administration.)

  • Apple execs explain Apple's position in the AI race & how it isn't necessarily 'behind'

Joz even scoffed at the idea of it being "demo ware," in what seemed to be a pointed comment at Daring Fireball's John Gruber.

Sure, now that it’s a year later. We still aren’t seeing the semantic index stuff that was touted at WWDC 2024. What is Joz scoffing at?
At the suggestion that what was shown during WWDC 2024 was faked or not actually running.
I understand, I’m just saying that it has been a year since the event where many things that were shown still haven’t been seen (by anyone outside of Apple), and yet he scoffs at the notion they don’t exist. Seems silly to me. I’m happy he seems confident in Apple’s ability to deliver the still missing features, but he shouldn’t be scoffing.

Side note: there is a lot of speculation that Apple snubbed Gruber over the Something is Rotten article, but I’d also point out that Gruber has made many posts specifically calling out Tim Cook for donating to Trump’s inauguration and seeming to be generally supportive of Trump. Gruber’s comments on that subject frequently use terms like “bootlicker” and it’s certainly possible that it’s those comments, made over and over about Tim Cook that he has been snubbed over.
Gruber never called Cook a bootlicker, though he did Bezos, for good reason. From what I've read and listened to, Gruber may not have been happy about Cook's dealings with the President, but he never insulted him for it. In fact, his feelings echo my own, that Cook really can't not suck up to the President right now, that not playing ball wasn't an option.

There's no evidence that Gruber's snubbing has anything to do with Cook. However, his article on Apple Intelligence and podcast that goes even further was definitely more than enough for Apple to take issue. Whether he was right or wrong doesn't matter, he straight up said he felt lied to and like he was a fool, and if I was on the receiving end of those comments after 10 years of being on his show as a nicety, I wouldn't be happy. Apple has stopped talking to people for less.
