  • Apple supplier Pegatron says tariffs will mean third world-style shortages for US

The economy is crashing. Ports are empty. Truck drivers have nothing to transport. Shelves will soon be empty of key goods. The dollar is dropping. Jobs are being lost. People aren't buying anything. There's no flow into the treasury. Our national debt is going up as a result of these tariffs as Americans do without. The global trade continues with the US removed unabated. We're the only ones harmed by this action. No one is negotiating anything.

So yeah, great plan all around so far.

  • Senator Warren asks if Apple CEO Tim Cook's Trump playbook is blatant corruption

Moderation note: waiting until the mods go to bed to continue posting the things we asked you not to post isn't a good strategy. I've deleted yet another thread that left the topic behind ages ago and was spinning into an argument about Warren's history and if conservatives even exist.

The topic is whether Apple's playbook to curry favors is corruption and if Warren's letter has merit. If you can't discuss that topic without attacking people or political parties, don't have the conversation. And complaining about moderation not being applied equally is silly because you don't see all of the content we delete that openly insults Trump and his party.

If you feel singled out, perhaps it's because you keep posting things that violate the rules and derail conversations.

  • Apple sued for $5M for not recovering data after iPhone theft

So this guy had ADP enabled but probably also used a PIN instead of a complex passcode for his device?

Personally, I waited a long time before enabling ADP because of the very clear warnings Apple gives before enabling it.

While under ADP the Recovery Key is needed, the suit insists that Apple is still capable of doing something about the situation. Mathews' lawyer K. Jon Breyer says it is "indefensible" for Apple to hold onto the data "they don't own."

We'd hate to do that so we'll go ahead and delete that encrypted file off our servers by deleting your iCloud account. Happy?
Whereas I disagree with the suit that Apple can do anything after the fact for this user, it is rather dumb that ADP exists to protect iCloud data tied to an Apple Account (formerly Apple ID), yet in the enabling/disabling process for ADP there is never a prompt from the Settings app to enter one's Apple Account password to proceed.  All it takes is snatching someone's unlocked iPhone out of their hands and running off and quickly enabling ADP.  The ability to enable it without so much as having to enter one's Apple Account password despite the fact that it can lock one out of iCloud data is preposterous.  It is too easy to enable and needs some additional safeguards to prevent abuse.
Nope, not how this works. You have to have the user's device passcode.

And how does enabling ADP help a thief? Especially if the account holder can just use one of their account recovery features to gain control of the account back.

I do wonder why Apple doesn't have the ADP toggle behind its Stolen Device Protection feature. Perhaps an oversight.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook makes a cool $24 million in serendipitous stock sale

It is always amusing to see sites such as this one do what they do, even if seems completely supine. I’ve always wondered why. Are they paid by Apple to use ‘serendipitously’ in a headline? Why not just say the fact? Why add a qualifier aimed at making it look like it was sheer luck?

You think the CEO of Apple doesn’t know what’s coming from the White House that affects his company? Oh, the naïveté.
If you read the article you'd know this stock sale was set in 2020. What you're describing is insider trading and illegal.
