  • Is Apple about to announce a 'Broadcast' App?

It's straight up clickbait in the form of conjecture. At least be honest about what you are doing.
An app being rejected by Apple isn't the news, though, so your title wouldn't reflect the story we've written. The app rejection and reason for rejection indicate that Apple could be planning a Broadcasts app based on past evidence. It isn't clickbait if the premise of the entire article is the question posed in the title.

We discuss the question and provide multiple possibilities. That's how news of this nature is covered.

Clickbait is defined as misleading the reader using a title that doesn't relate to the content. If we said "Here's when Apple is launching its Broadcast app" that would be considered clickbait. Or, "Apple reveals Broadcasts as its next app name." But no, we posed a question that could be asked based on the events that unfolded and provided guidance about why we're asking such a question.

Remember, disliking something doesn't make it clickbait, and not everything on this website will appeal to every reader. :)

The key here is this: what if Apple does announce a Broadcast app and we didn't cover this? We'd have missed a big scoop! Better to cover it and be wrong than know about it and do nothing. That's just how this industry works. And I reiterate, there's nothing misleading about the headline -- we didn't say this was absolute and we explain the title in the first sentence.

  • Is Apple about to announce a 'Broadcast' App?

I get that this is a rumor site, but surely we're basing our predictions about things on more than this.
This wasn't a prediction. Just news. This has happened before and could easily happen again. While App Store search might return similar results to Apple's naming, none are just "Podcasts." A similar thing happened to Home+, and the developer had to fight to keep the name.

The same could be happening here, and we pointed out that this could also just be a mistake by Apple in the article. No one said this is happening. But, there is also the possibility that App Review just accidentally revealed an upcoming app or project from Apple. Is that not enough to point it out to our readers, even if it is tenuous, as we've pointed out?

  • Lululook iPad mini 6 Magnetic Keyboard Case review: Tough typing can't be offset by miniat...

This comment suggests perhaps a lack of familiarity with the “iPad keyboard case” market in which this product is competing. Very few iPad keyboard cases allow for a wired connection, except the small handful which connect to some iPads’ Smart Connector (which the iPad Mini 6 sadly lacks.)
I appreciate the criticism. Really. But many of your points are addressed in this article.

First, I love this keyboard case and will use it myself. Don't mistake a review written with all users in mind as my personal opinion, which I make clear in the text. While I don't find the typing experience great, I still value what the case offers and get buy typing slowly and in limited fashions. I also like the swivel stand.

Second, several points you make are contradicted in the article with my first hand experience. The case is not protective in any fashion, as I mentioned. The trackpad is ok, but not great and prone to dropped connections thanks to working only over bluetooth. And finally, Brydge keyboards, which I've owned several, all work over a wired USB connection.

In fact, it is strikingly odd that this keyboard doesn't seem to work over USB.

So, to explain my score again: This is a magnetic keyboard case for iPad mini 6.

    - it is bad at being a case. No protection is offered, and as I said in the piece, that's fine because that isn't the primary goal.
    - it is bad at being a magnetic case. The iPad barely clings to the magnetic pad and often slips free when opening and adjusting angles. Also mentioned in the piece.
    - it is bad at being a keyboard. Speed typists won't be able to adapt to this keyboard unless they have very small hands.
    - it is bad at being a trackpad. The trackpad is great to use and smooth, but disconnects and can't be wired.
    - it is bad at being a stand. There is no weight in the bottom of the case. The iPad will topple over unless on a flat surface used at a specific angle.

The only thing it is good at is being the only suitable device of its kind. Which is why I didn't score this a 1.0. It is a usable product that isn't broken, so at least a 2.0, but I like it and a niche will like it, so a 2.5.

3.0 would suggest mass appeal in a working product. where 4.0 suggest the product exceeds expectations. 5.0 is a perfect score in which the product can't be improved in any way and few if any products can match.

So, 2.5 seems to be the fair choice. Look outside your use case. Even most iPad mini 6 users wouldn't buy this because most iPad mini 6 buyers won't want a keyboard for their tiny tablet.

I suggested that Nuphy keyboard because it is truly excellent for its size. Most others would probably buy Apple's classic Magic Keyboard.

I appreciate being angry at a low score on a product you like. But I have to be objective when I write my reviews. Note that I'm scoring this for everyone, not for me.

  • How Apple's Files app is getting better in iOS 16 & iPadOS 16

Any option to format empty/un-initialized media into HFS, APFS, or exFAT? If not, then before you can use an empty disk with the iPad and its Files app, you still need a computer first.  What about the option to unmount media, so as to protect from data loss? Android can unmount.. can the iPad safely unmount media?
Most drives are going to be compatible with iPad out of the box. I'd assume if you have a drive that is in an incompatible format, it means you formatted it in the first place and can do it again on your PC/Mac. It is unfortunate that iPad can't do it, but I'd be willing to guess that the number of people who need to do that in 2022 is in the dozens, if that.

As far as un-mounting a drive? You technically don't need to given how modern file systems operate. They run at a buffer to prevent data loss. The drive eject system is archaic and outdated and I wish I could disable the warnings on my Mac. I don't think I've ever unmounted a drive or SD card from my Mac.

The reason you wanted to eject attached drives was because of write caching. But now, unless you're actively writing to a disk, there's not really any need for caching since SSD speeds are so fast.

Do what you like, but I personally don't eject any drive and have yet to run into corrupted data. Don't think I will either.

  • Compared: iPadOS 16 Stage Manager vs. iPadOS 15 Split View multitasking

    tht said:
When you say apps, you mean “views” or windows?

Files.app can have multiple Files views. So a user can only have 4 Files views or windows per stack/pile?

If it is 4 apps per piles, you can have 3 Files.app views and 4 Safari.app views for a total of 7 views, or windows, per pile?
The active apps are the apps running on the main display. You can four active at once. The stacks of apps on the side can become active by clicking on them. Each stack can have four apps.

Doesn't have anything to do with which app has how many windows. Just four active app windows of any kind. So a stack could have a safari window, notes, messages, and shortcuts open.
