  • Even with so many demonstrated use cases, Apple Vision Pro might not yet have a purpose

I think we're also going to see the iPhone adopt another camera so that it can take Spatial Videos and Photos. If everyone is making them, more people will want to see them through the Vision Pro. Maybe there is a way to see them on the phone too by moving the phone around the photo/video.

All that works well when there's mutual trust. I'd be cautious about using it before that's been established. Of course, it's not an all-or-nothing proposition. You can temporarily enable location sharing from maps once you've set a route. So if someone's waiting for you to pick them up, or someone is concerned about you arriving somewhere safely during a snowstorm, you can share just that trip with them. They can see your progress on the route and then it shuts off when you arrive.
I agree that it's all about trust. My wife and I have it enabled and find it quite useful--however we hardly ever check it. Anytime we have spoken to other couples who don't enable it, lack of trust is always the first thing that comes up.

  • Wired CarPlay vs. wireless - the pros and cons

    JP234 said:
Our new 2022 Volvo XC40 has a weird mix: wireless charging, but wired CarPlay. There's a nook in front of the shifter with built in charger, and 2 USB-A ports. I found a 12" USB-Lightning cable, which is just long enough to attach to the phone when it's in the charger nook, without a tangled mess. And there's even a tiny drawer, like the old ashtrays, where I can stow the cable when not in use.
Our 2022 Mazda CX-5 is similar. We had a 2021 CX-5 which had wireless Carplay but was totalled, so we got the 2022. The dealership said wireless was too buggy, so the new ones went wired only, but gained a wireless charging pad.

I find it really inconvenient to need to plug-in to use it. I do plug in every time since the experience is so much better than the standard system, but it's a drag to have to pull out my phone every time.

I'm in. Apple is going to sell a metric phucktonne of these things.
Are you really implying that the amount of iPhones that will be sold next generation will be materially affected by the change from Lightning to USB C?!

I certainly skipped upgrading last year since it wasn’t USB-c. I’ll definitely be getting this year’s if it is. I’m fairly certain I’m not the only one waiting for it to go USB-c.

  • Apple Fitness+ review: Two years later, barely treads water

I just bought an indoor bike so I was getting ready to sign up for Fitness+ again, but this review may have changed my mind with just one sentence: "You cannot filter workouts by exercise equipment". I want to be able to filter "20 minute bike workouts". I have zero interest in scrolling through waves of screens to find what I'm looking for. If anyone knows different, I'd love to know.
You can specifically select/filter bike workouts. There are different categories like running, cycling, yoga, hiit, etc.

I disagree with a lot of this article. Like someone else said, TikTok is a joke and I would never conisider a Peloton. Apple Fitness+ is definitely a nice middle ground.
