  • The LastPass hack saga just keeps getting worse

"This was accomplished by targeting the DevOps engineer's home computer and exploiting a vulnerable third-party media software package, which enabled remote code execution capability and allowed the threat actor to implant keylogger malware," LastPass wrote. "The threat actor was able to capture the employee's master password as it was entered, after the employee authenticated with MFA, and gain access to the DevOps engineer's LastPass corporate vault."

    Sounds phishy ;)

But, seriously, it sounds like their security protocols are in desperate need of an audit.

I would not trust any 3rd party with my secrets unless they had significant a$$ets to lose through negligence/malfeasance.

Put down a pretty lace doily as they used to in a bygone era before we stopped using common sense.

Is AI paying by the word now?

  • Apple seeks 911 dispatcher feedback over Emergency SOS skier misfires

Recently while cycling, I crashed into a car head first. It was a pretty sizable impact (cratered my helmet, bent my Enve Garmin mount). I wasn’t sure of the extent of my injuries right away. But, fortunately I was close to home, and body and bike were functional so I responded as crashed but not hurt to my watch.

Someone else, or even me, in exactly the same or similar situation might have been more seriously injured. Thankfully I wasn’t.

A watch can detect a fall/crash, but cannot reasonably detect injury. The crash detect feature has been designed to err on the side of caution, as it should be.

If it leads to false alarms, that’s natural, and users should know to respond to their watches.

The fault with the folk who are not responding “I’m okay” to their watches. Maybe there should be fines for triggering false alarms.

  • Apple SIM for iPad cannot be used to activate cellular plans anymore

People who travel to other countries may still want the SIM tray option. eSIM from the home carrier and a country SIM in the tray. Very convenient, very efficient.

Fortunately the tray hasn’t gone away in Canada yet.

Until the world adopts eSIMs, the tray will remain useful for international travel.

The eSim-only thing is a deal-breaker for me as I suspect for many international travellers. I might have to buy my next phone in another country to get a SIM tray.
