  • Wallace and Gromit light up Apple's UK headquarters for Christmas

Love Wallace & Gromit!  While Benjamin Whitehead is no Peter Sallis, his impersonation is reasonable and allows further antics to be produced.  Hopefully this movie will be available on physical media for those of us who do not stream.

  • AirPods Pro crackling issue target of new class-action lawsuit

I had an Airpods Pro 1st generation that was denied the fix because their service program had expired. I had not used them much while exercising or in calls. The buzzing got worse if I used the airpods while moving or spoke. When i found about the service program it was too late.

The Apple staff acknowledged it was a common issue and recommended buying new AirPods rather than repairing them since they were no longer covered by the service program.
At which point, I would purchase a different manufacturer's earbuds - You sold me defective earbuds, knew I owned the earbuds, didn't inform me of the service program and now want me to purchase another set of earbuds from you?

  • Apple execs address Mac mini's hidden power button in 2024 redesign

Apple's 2024 Mac mini stashes the power button underneath, a bold stupid move that executives say aligns with user habits
access the button by tucking a finger underneath to press it as long as you’re a six year old child. Otherwise you have to pick the unit up.
They are trying to put a shine on a turd. This was a stupid design choice that goes against best practices and will waste electricity. So much for Apple trying to act like they keep the environment in focus.

Design is based on research and the result clearly points to it not being necessary. There'll always be a group who disagree, but that's typically because they have not adopted to newer options. The same sentiment happened when Apple removed the headphone jack, or the ability to swap the iPhone battery, or removed the iPhones Home button...
Are you genuinely trying to say Apple does market research on their designs?
    Did the public clamor for:
Removal of floppy drives?  Optical drives? A round hockey-puck mouse? A limited expansion garbage can "Pro" computer design?  Putting a charge port on the bottom of a mouse?  A keyboard design which just didn't work in the real world?  $700 wheels for a computer?

Did Apple use research focus groups for these and their multitude of other boondoggles?

Of course not!  Apple does what Apple wants to do - consumer be damned!  and they rarely, VERY rarely, admit to a design faux-pas.  Apple epitomizes autocratic, form-over-function mentality...  and has enough zealots who will support their every stupidity to let them continue thinking they are brilliant visionaries.

As Bill Gates said, the Internet has become the place where crazy people congregate.

Didn't he say that in an on-line interview?

Didn't Bill also say superhuman AI is just around the corner?

Sounds to me like Bill is trying to prove is own point about crazy people and the internet.

  • Hands on with Apple's new $70 Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable

Seems like all you mentioned was the cosmetics.  A wire is a wire. Perhaps you can add a bit about why the electrons like the Thunderbolt 5 wire more than the Thunderbolt 4 wire. What is it - not the external braid or the plastic or molded cover on the plug - that makes the electrons travel faster (trick question)? And why does that process cost $70?
There is a bit more to high speed, high power interface cables than "A wire is a wire."  But feel free to go grab a few power cords and wire them up to a pair of connectors and prove everyone wrong.
