another reason why high tech manufacturing is a tough sell in the US, you can’t have a labor force this contrarian to main stream culture.
I am truly stumped at making a connection between the linked Washington Post article and high tech manufacturing, or main stream culture, or the labor force at large.

In case you did not know, there certainly is high tech manufacturing in the United States.  What you don't see much of (anymore) is high volume, low cost manufacturing.  I have worked for two companies which were both high tech manufacturers.  However, both of these companies were smaller and manufactured lower volume, higher value products.  Think industrial, military, medical, et al. - certainly not consumer widgets.

  • Wristcam is a $299 Apple Watch band with a camera

Imagine what it will look like once you attach the 22x telephoto lens to it!  Surreptitious photography at it's finest!

Being a certified Luddite, I am sticking with my Casio WQV-2 Wrist Camera.

    Isn't USB4 capable of doing 10GbE?
USB4 supports the data rate...  and then some.  Whether there will be support for a hardware adapter is another matter.

  • Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Christmas specials will air on PBS

    Good news indeed!

It will be interesting to see if PBS decides to remove the religious aspects of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and/or decide to include the bits which have been removed from the ABC broadcasts in recent years to reduce the runtime (thereby allowing additional commercials in the time slot).

Either way, my Blu-ray discs have been ripped to my Plex server and are a family tradition.

  • Plugable's new Thunderbolt 3 dock provides 96W charging, supports two 4K displays

What’s up with all these companies building dumb ass Thunderbolt/USB-C hubs? It only has 2 TB/USB-C ports. And when you plug it into your MBP/MBA you now have 1. Wtf is the point? Like it’s supposed to expand all of your ports. Maybe I’m thinking about this the wrong way?
Perhaps I am not understanding your issue.  Looking at your example of a MacBook Air with two Thunderbolt ports (and assume you are using this while at a desk and not running on batteries while on the move).  One of your two thunderbolt ports would normally be used for connecting a power supply which itself takes you down to one Thunderbolt port.  This "dumb ass... hub" (really docking station-esque) would take the place of the power supply connection so you would still have a single available Thunderbolt port available on your computer.  However, besides charging your computer it would also provide you with a plethora of ports your computer would not normally have...  USB-A, GbE, HDMI/Display port, Micro SD, SD, et al.

While there are other docking stations out there at a similar price point, having more choices is generally a good thing in my book.

Still...  Nothing will beat the awesomeness which was the Duo Dock!
