  • Apple stuck the Mac mini power button on the bottom

They also put the exhaust ports on the bottom - is it possible that the bottom is actually the top?  Functionally, leaving it black-side up makes more sense, right?

  • Why Apple's smart home speaker dreams are still falling short

Competitors give away the hardware to sell you something else or to sell you to someone else. Consumers are attracted to lower prices, no matter the reason (consequences? What are you talkin' about?). Apple is a hardware company and won't sell the HomePod at a price that fails to provide the required profit margins.

In addition, Amazon gives Alexa to any company that wants to integrate it into a device. Google does the same. How many Alexa-capable devices are in your house but never used for Alexa? I have nine Sonos speakers, each with Alexa—are those counted as Alexa devices in these charts?

  • iPhone 16 Camera Control button -- the ultimate guide

for me it's the new "button I accidentally press 10 times a day".

That honor used to go to the volume up + side button. There were so many unwanted screenshots. I finally trained myself to handle the phone by its lower half—just in time for someone to stick a button there, too.

  • What happened to Safari Web Eraser -- the controversy, and what it looked like

Ironically, the most egregious and disruptive advertising (IMO) is in Apple News - a service I pay a monthly fee to use, yet still have full-page ads breaking up the text flow.

  • Siri is reborn in iOS 18 -- everything Apple's voice assistant will be able to do

AI, as it currently is, is not artificial intelligence.  It is just the next level of processing.  Calling it AI is a great sales’ pitch, though.
I came to ask the same, thinking maybe I was missing something. Siri isn't figuring out how to do something it wasn't previously trained on. There shouldn't be a list of what the new OS can do - it should be open-ended.

I'd be happy if Siri asked ME to teach it new things. When I say, "Log my medication," Siri should not say, "I can't do that." Instead, it should say, "Teach me what you want to do," and then learn from that.
