  • Apple has two big CarPlay problems

People should understand that vendors have every reason to be wary of Apple and how much access they provide to the car systems.

It would be understandable that they don't want the tail to end up wagging the dog as we move towards more autonomous capabilities.

I don't think CarPlay will get very far in the short term against providers who are already offering complete software systems to manufacturers. Those systems are also tying into key EV hardware which they are also offering to vendors (chassis, batteries, power management, charging, 'vision'...).
Yes, trusting apple not to eventually put you of business is like the frog trusting the scorpion when crossing the river and not getting stung.

Apple are wonderful, but to competitors, they are a virus that will wipe you out as soon as they are powerful enough.

  • A secret tool lets police conduct mass surveillance using app data

    Here we go again.
Police from around the country (snip)

Which country? Why are these articles written as if the US is the only country in the world? Fix your editors!  :|

Thank goodness that Apple is not in the business of selling data!

It’s a US website. Maybe you should adjust your expectations. When you read a US site, wouldn’t it be logical to think they are talking about the US, rather than naively asking “which country?” and demanding the site fix its editors?

    Fix yourself.

  • These features are not in the initial release of iOS 16

You say Apple’s iOS 16 software aspirations are too “ambiguous”… did you really mean too ambitious?

Or am I being too ambitious in my expectations?

Not to be a downer, but it suggests that Quantas could do a better job cleaning and inspecting the planes between flights.
That is what I was thinking.

I flew Delta to Japan in 2000 to have a booth at the Macworld Tokyo trade show and I had a laptop power adapter for the in flight power.   I accidentally left it on the plane.  The Japanese staff were very efficient at finding it during the cleaning and turn  around process and when I called a few hours later, after getting to my hotel, it was already in their lost and found.
    ___

It's disgusting Qantas don't do a better job of cleaning their planes. Qantas are lucky this phone wasn't stuck in a place it could snap in half, catch fire due to the battery being damaged, and cause this plane to be at risk.

Do better Qantas, your CEO is only paid tens of millions of dollars. 😡🤬

I think the MVNOs will not work without their sim card. ymmv
MVNOs in other parts of the world can already be activated with eSIMs, it will be the same for US MVNOs.
