  • Fraudsters beat App Store vetting by swapping out app data

When apps are merely shells wrapped around websites to show content and layout, they are not much different than just going to that website vs using the app.

Unless Apple changes the rules and says all layout and functionality must be contained WITHIN the app, this will be impossible to stop, as websites are not under the control of Apple.  Anyone at any time could take a seemingly harmless website and turn it into an evil monster that intends to do you harm.

  • Here's why you don't put an AirTag on your dog's collar

The problem is not the airtags. The problem is the unsafe airtag mounting systems like the one shown.  If you have an airtag that securely mounts inside the collar, all of the issues listed go away.  And if an airtag is useless to find a pet, it's also useless to find other non-living objects as well.

  • Apple gives some older iPhones OS updates, going back to iPhone 5s

This speaks more to severity of the security issue than Apple's support of old devices.  There are a LOT of security patches that have passed older devices by - even iOS 15 / macOS 12 aren't getting them all anymore.
With MacOS, Apple typically continues to release security updates for about 3 years.  I'm sure some of the security updates to the newest OS are because of changes to the OS and may not be issues in the older versions, which would be an explanation as to why those get skipped over.

Of course, they are also continuing to tighten the rules on security, so the standards get higher with each new OS.

  • Apple considering 2025 debut of touchscreen MacBook Pro

Touchscreen on a laptop would require re-designing interfaces to be more touch friendly.  Touch friendly requires larger targets and scroll areas.  So the trade-off is less potential operating space on the screen for fine detailed work you can do with a mouse.

Windows machines that have touch screens end up being quite frustrating to use because of this. You can TRY to touch anything, but getting it to actually respond correctly if it wasn't designed for touch is a mess of frustration.

If Apple implements a touch interface, they will have to make drastic improvements on how it operates.  You can test out how well touch works on MacOS now by pairing your iPad with your mac.  Some things it's handy for, but others it's downright impossible to get it to behave properly.

It doesn't mean they can't do it. It just means to do it correctly and seamlessly will require some pretty creative thinking.

  • Elon Musk orders Twitter to charge $20/month for verification

Not everyone needs verification.  Verification is for those that are celebrities, politicians, etc, where it's likely that others would create accounts to pretend to be them.  For these people, $20/month is very little money.

What this does is make it a financial burden to scam the verification system for someone that figured out how to trick the verification process.  Now that 'fake' account you create requires a payment which then creates more of a paper trail as to who is behind the fake account.

    Makes total sense.
