Apple faces 500M euro fine following EU music probe
Xed said:nubus said:dewme said:Are EU consumers taking advantage of the bludgeoning of the "evil gatekeepers" and suddenly basking in the glory of being able to purchase EU made products and services at more affordable prices? That is the goal, improving choice and driving lower prices, isn't it?
US regulation forced the unbundling of IE from Windows and it opened the web + made Mac a platform that could be used on the level as Windows for most people. And the fear of regulation forced Microsoft to make a deal with Apple to producing MS Office for "at least 5 years" + made a huge investment (+3% of Apple). At that time Apple was 90 days from going bankrupt. Microsoft needed Apple to stay alive to keep US authorities at bay. Thanks to US regulation we still have Apple and competition.Getting an American visa through the US State Department requires using a restricted set of browsers and Safari is not one of those approved by the Department. No reason is available but maybe something to do with Apple’s encryption system. -
Apple and Meta's latest fight is over social media boosted post fees on iPhone
pascal007 said:I’m not a Meta fan, in no way shape or form. But I have a hard time finding a tear for Apple’s dramatic stance. If Apple thinks that managing fees has a cost, then they should simply stop requiring that developers use their transactional platform. Less use, less transactions, less costs overall. Stop forcing developers to use Apple transactional platform and leave reimbursements to the developers. The current system doesn’t adequately protect customers anyway as abusive developers still manage to charge abusive fees without Apple even batting an eye. -
Despite what Apple says, most of its workers still fear backlash over unionization efforts...

Apple's EU App Store changes are extortion, says Spotify
sirdir said:While I don’t have too much sympathy for Spotify, Apple is really the bad guy here. The EU will eventually come down hard on them. We should be allowed to get the Apps WE want on our phones and not let Apple decide. There are so many great apps that will never come to be because Apple is the bully watchdog. At least they finally had to give in regarding the game streaming apps, but imagine for example parallels running on iPad OS. It might really be a full grown computer.
