If you read the actual federal complaint on PACER, you see that law enforcement was first alerted to Mollick’s alleged possession of CSAM because of a report by Kik, triggered by PhotoDNA. They then served a subpoena to Apple for subscriber information to confirm he was the same user who uploaded CSAM to Kik. They then served a search warrant to Apple, where they found 2000 images in a library of 80000 files.
