  • Joe Rogan show returns to Apple Podcasts

Something’s definitely amiss when Stewart has to go back to The Daily, but Rogan’s fuckwittery gets free rein.

  • Now the US government is demanding users not wear Apple Vision Pro while driving

Given how many people I see using their phones (mostly in their hands) while driving and while biking, I expect this to be an issue that won’t go away until there’s a unit you can use while piloting a vehicle of some kind. Having a heads up display in these situations, if they can enhance safety, would be a good thing. [NOTE: Boston has more shitty, inattentive, red-light blowing, willfully endangering others drivers and riders, than any other place I’ve been. Including the NY metro area and suburbs. Too many people lean into being a “masshole” when they get on the road. I pray for the day when people can no longer drive/ride without an AI minder.] (I’m sure there will be comments after this insisting that it’s a right to be a shitty driver/rider, or that they personally are the best driver/rider in the world, or some other such nonsense. You’re not. Your’re a shitty, distracted, entitled driver like everyone else. And the sooner we remove humans from the driver’s seat, the better.)

  • Apple Arcade user volume nearly matches Nintendo Switch Online and Steam players

For fudge sake, all the whingers bleating about AAA games. Maybe you could just recognize that the Apple gaming market is different than PC/console. Stop trying to turn it into a weak clone of what already exists. AAA gaming will come not with Apple working closely with those (highly dysfunctional) gaming studios; but by being ubiquitous in the market, a lá the iOS/iPadOS in the workplace. Market size will bring the studios. In the meantime, it’ll have to evolve the way it does. Much like the console/handheld markets evolved into their particular strengths. My feel is that immersive games through the Vision will power Apple gaming past the competition, giving it a unique strength.

Until then, try appreciating what is already on offer. Clearly a lot of people already do.

  • Here we go again - Apple rejects Hey Calendar app from App Store

    elijahg said:
Reminds of the conundrum the Pre - Jobsian Apple found themselves in with Clones.

They thought the clone vendors would attempt to expand into new markets but instead they
simply sought to cannibalize the company with inferior offerings.

What incentive does Apple have to allow a significant amount of vendors to leverage their distribution
platform at minimal cost and reap the financial benefits outside of Apple's sphere?

If they were inferior offerings how was it they were able to cannibalise Apple's sales?

A lot of the clones were excellent. That was the problem, they were faster, more feature-rich and cheaper than Apple's Macs.

This is different. Apple's incentive to allow vendors to sell on the App Store is increased sales of iPhones. Besides, Apple distributes Facebook, X and a multitude of apps completely free, so why try and force this small developer to pay especially when they've already got another app through with the "reader" clause? And considering the amount of trash on the App Store - and as the dev points out, Google has heaps of apps that could all be mangled into one. Why did Apple allow Messenger to be separated from Facebook?
UGH. I maintained many, many clones at a university. NO, they were NOT the same build quality.

  • GM ditching Apple CarPlay is about money, not safety

GM engineering and manufacturing have both been running jokes for over 40 years now. The only people that buy them know absolutely nothing beyond the basics about cars or trucks (or GM’s history of endless f*ck-ups). Might as well burn your money. CarPlay is the least of their problems.

Genuinely hoping they go under in my lifetime.

Prediction: in twenty years the only pieces of GM left will be a commercial truck manufacturer and the Corvette. I doubt they’ll be independent — more likely dependent on or owned by another conglomerate.

(Disclaimer: Yup, I’ve owned them and repaired them. Truly, truly garbage products.)

Don’t believe me? Just ask Howie Makum.
