  • Apple TV+ shows may have been filmed for Apple Vision Pro all along

Shooting high quality sterescopic 3d is quite complicated, and not something you can just slap a camera on set for without it being obvious. It affects everything from staging scenes and audio etcetc.

More likely R&D/testing for their 3D camera. Orelse capturing depth for vfx.

  • Apple, Google confirm new EU 'gatekeeper' law applies to them

    @williamlondon Good points.

I suspect anonymized AppleID for registering on all these will be at-least an option. If you can buy with Apple pay, likely completely untraceable unless criminal.

And these options are likely because Apple has anticipated this due to the long process and signalling from EU regulators.

For Apple. privacy pays... So they have an incentive to do it properly.

  • Apple Vision Pro vs Meta Quest heatsets - how the approaches compare

For one thing, I wanted to comment that Apple plays to its main strengths here. One, their in-house designed low power consumption Silicon that is generations ahead of the competition in the wearables category. They put a M2, the same processor that the MacBook Air and iPad uses, in this headset AND designed another processor to handle sensors/cameras… The performance of this thing is miles ahead of anything facebook will ever be able to put into their offerings.

Secondly… Yes I do have a quest 2. I know they are the shittiest company in the world in regards to user privacy, and I will happily never ever give them another dollar again.

The AR game will heat up considerably in the next 4 years. Apple is putting this out ahead of a revolutionary wave of new lens technology slated for 2026. metamaterial nano lenses. Truly revolutionary technology in the display and camera lens field, prototypes can be seen on youtube and the capabilities are mindbending.

So, expect regular sunglasses versions of this technology in 2026 or 2027. And that is what this release is the prelude for, and that is also when you can expect the mainstream to pick up on Apple Vision in a big way.

  • 2022 iPad Pro M2 review: Six months later, powerful and still stale

I have the 12.9 iPad Pro M2. I went M2 for the hover pencil since I am an illustrator/animator. As for utilizing the M2, I can do 3d sculping in Nomad (zBrush going out of my pricerange currently) it taxes it pretty well. I can take my sculpts to Octane x and render. Quite spiffy.

Yeah, there is no devulge of pro apps, but the ones that are take well advantage of the M2. It is my daily driver and my iMac Pro is feeling a bit ready for a replacement. I am hoping something with M3 comes that I can upgrade to for ray tracing logic on the gpu.

Otherwise, very happy with the M2, do not regret it. It even replaced my iphone as a browsing entertainment device.

  • Is iPhone still cool? Maybe Apple should flip the script

If you were to follow Steve Jobs’s quote of a Canadian hockeyplayer of “skating to where the puck will be”

Does a flip phone sound like “it”

Innovation, surely. But is it a significant game-changing innovation really? a flip phone or a curved screen?

I think you are right on the money that smartphones are no longer cool. And also that it is a problem for not only Apple, but every other smartphone manufacturer.

I think the puck is AR and smartglasses. Who else can make actually usefull and cool smartglasses?

Apple can, and they are. So I believe you are wrong in that apple should pursue a million variants in physical design just to satisfy every customers specific “cool” design preference.

They need to deliver beyond “cool” And beyond cool is taking a tech that has been maturing now for half a century, but with no homerun product, and break the AR market wide open.

Apple can take AR and VR to the masses, and start a new cycle that will have every player chasing apple on having a mature and superbly performant wearable computer to pair with AR glasses, which the iphone is.

You just need to imagine a couple killer apps, namely maps in AR. And Pokemon GO in AR, just to mention one surefire blockbuster.

AR glasses check both “cool” and a new tech that is going to change humanity. Both of which apple cares about.
