  • Apple has built a new generative AI tool for animating images

Does Apple normally release several research papers at such an early stage in developing features?

This one hasn't really been tested yet, just 13 people have given it a try, but Apple is already announcing it?  I've always seen them as keeping their internal development quiet and under-the-radar and competitors guessing, before announcing to the world what they're up to with a consumer-ready feature all but complete.  Rather than these PR pieces intended to "delight the customer" it seems more likely this is meant to delight the market.
Yes, on the AI front Apple has been publishing research papers since 2017 and sponsors AI conferences around the world.

The important thing to remember is that the research isn’t publishing what features will be in an Apple product. The research may ultimately power a feature in a product but we don’t know what those features are or how they will be implemented.

It’s funny that with the general public’s interest in AI rising over the last year or so that people jump to the conclusion that Apple is behind and is publishing research in an attempt to get in on the action.

The reality is Apple has been including AI features in their products for almost a decade. They have built processors specifically to handle AI. They have published research on AI. And they have bought more AI companies than anyone else.

Apple isn’t doing anything new, people are just starting to pay attention.

  • Apple Vision Pro can be used in public, but mind your manners

As for people recording in public goes, it is perfectly legal and you don’t need to get consent.

IANAL, but a quick Google search suggests this is not true in many states (outside of dressing rooms, bathrooms, and not peeping through people's windows, of course), unless you're taking care to record no sound. Be very careful with audio recording; there are a lot more laws and regulations governing it.

I’m not sure if you read the document you linked to but it clearly states video recordings are legal when there isn’t an expectation of privacy. Public spaces don’t come with an expectation of privacy.

  • Apple Vision Pro shipment dates slip nearly instantly

    apple23 said:
Perhaps the delivery slippage is due to the store pick-up process taking 1/2 hour and there are only so many appointment slots?
The shipping delivery date is slipping as well as the in store pickup dates. So it isn't related to appointment options as these are irrelevant to people that aren't doing inshore pickup.

  • Apple Vision Pro preorders have started online, deliveries begin Feb. 2

My ApplePay using AppleCard transaction failed 7 times.  Each time it failed it made me pick a new appointment time. When I finally changed credit cards I had been moved from Feb2 at 11:00am to February 3 at 4pm.  I checked with the AppleCard people and they said there were no declined transactions.  It appears maybe it was an ApplePay issue on the Apple Store side.  Did anybody else see this problem?
I had the "transition failed" a few times. I just entered the card number manually and it went through. You still get your 3% on the AppleCard if you enter the number rather than using ApplePay.

  • Apple Vision Pro customers face a 25-minute in-store sales pitch

    What a nightmare.

Th logistics and the jumping through hoops just get a potential or actual customer to “understand” is indicative of something that doesn’t need to be shipped. The UX team should have handled this in a setup wizard.

I don’t even want to imagine what irate tirade Jobs would have gone off on.

    Unbelievable.
With the launch of the iPod had 30 mins walkthroughs of the device at Apple stores. Let’s see who was CEO then… checks notes …. Oh look, it was one Steven P. Jobs. I wonder if that was the same Steven P. Jobs that travels the country offering one on one demos of the original Macintosh to influencers of the day? It was! WOW, seems like was actually a big fan of this whole concept.

There, I just saved your imagination a whole bunch of work.
