  • Apple insists 8GB unified memory equals 16GB regular RAM

It is worth noting, that Adobe recommends 16gb ram for Lightroom on both windows and mac.

Apparently there are some issues with Adobe's memory management with apple silicon. If this is resolved, then I guess Apple might be correct!

  • Postscript is gone, long live TrueType and OpenType

Type 1 fonts may be dead, but postscript itself certainly isn't... yet.  EPS files are still commonplace for vector images, and even though almost all commercial print companies (such as the one I work for) have moved to PDF workflows these days, that in itself is essentially a viewable PS file.

  • Apple rolls out watchOS 10 for Apple Watch with new faces, health features

    Bug?

Just updated to WatchOS 10 and I now can’t swipe to my other watch faces. I can see them on my iPhone Watch app, and change them on there but can’t on my watch.

    Anyone else seeing this?
You have to tap and hold and then swipe right or left to get to each watch face.

Yeah, it looks like Apple changed quite a few of the default behaviors. I was as puzzled by the way swipe to change the watch face works as Chr15h was. The good news is no more inadvertent changes to the watch face. I also noticed that I used to be able to show the Control Center by swiping up. Now I have to press the side button, which means I'll have to figure out how to scroll through the list of running apps. This seems like a significant change to the user interaction model and user interface. I'm sure it will be better once I get over the learning curve. I like what I'm seeing so far.
Yeah. There are a couple of behaviours Apple didn't shout about that will take a while to get used to. The watch face swapping for one. But I've also noticed that pressing the crown to access the apps list always takes you to the top of the list. Whereas before, it took you back to where it was the last time you used it. Perhaps it's time they introduced folders or favourites.

Regarding moving the control centre to the side button. I'll get used to it for sure. But I'm not convinced it's the best use of a dedicated hardware button.

  • A cheap Bluetooth transmitter can spoof some iPhone notifications

I wonder how many iPhone-toting attendees at such a conference were also wearing an Apple Watch? Disabling Bluetooth "breaks" a number of features, if the watch isn't connected to wifi.

  • iCloud Time Machine for Mac & new AirPort routers pop out of rumor mill - but hurdles abou...

IIRC, Apple exited the router market because mesh devices were getting so popular.  Not to mention that many people didn't want to replace their isp provided all-in-one modem/router with another router just for wireless time machine backups.

A time machine backup device that integrates with an existing home network by simply plugging into a network port (and USB power) could be very useful.  Perhaps the specs of the mystery device suggest this could work. 32GB as a buffer, as it's likely network speed from mac to the device will be a lot faster than upload speed to cloud, and a battery backup in case of a power outage, so that it knows what's backed up from its buffer and what hasn't.

Wireless 'n' is a peculiarity though.
