  • Gene Munster: Apple should buy Rivian after cancelling Apple Car

    Flyer007b said:
I think Fisker makes more sense as a candidate for Apple. And might be cheaper as well. Apple hardly ever buys fully matured companies. Fisker has a lot to win by it as their software is still weak (missing CarPlay for example ;-)
Literally everything you wrote in support of Fisker also holds for Rivian.  Although I think it very unlikely that Apple will buy any car company, Rivian would be a better fit for Apple for one simple reason: they have indicated, many times, they like to control/make all the critical components of of their products.  Fisker doesn't even make their own cars - they're produced by Magna-Steyr in Austria!  Rivian makes its own cars and has developed its own related technologies (e.g. the  motors that now drive  most of their newer vehicles).

But Munster is not the smartest tool in the shed.  He just throws stuff onto a wall and hopes something sticks.  He previously forecast Apple will produce a TV for christ sake.

  • Apple Vision Pro launch quantities rumored to be far tighter than previously estimated

Why is he continuing to make comments like this?  There is no way that this will ever be verified, unless Apple announces pre-order numbers on 2/1.  If he’s close, does he get a cookie?

As seems to be the case lately, Kuo Doesn’t Know™️.

The man seems to be jumping at straws to stay relevant around this new product.
The Vision Pro is clearly a new device category if one believes Apple's marketing.  So *iff* it's a success, it should have its own category during Apple's financial reporting.  But I doubt it will be successful from a financial perspective, so Apple might clump it into the "wearable" category to hide from investors its minuscule contribution.

  • Ming-Chi Kuo: Investors should be cautious about Apple Vision Pro launch hype

It's not clear why Kuo holds this viewpoint.  The Apple Watch was not an incredible success at launch” - huh?  it’s perfectly clear why he’s saying it - you even quoted
him: “…which would be detrimental to the short-term stock price performance”.  He’s giving investors advice - see your own title!

if you’re going to go back to Apple Watch and Apple TV, make it relevant and tell us if AAPL stock was not affected in those cases.

  • Roborock upgrades flagship robotic vacuum with Matter support & more

I have the Roborock S7+ (EU version) with auto emptying into a bag.

It is nice and my wife loves it but all these 'cleaning' devices need to be cleaned regularly themselves.

And it's me who does that so it somewhat defeats the objective of using a machine when a human can do the same job more efficiently and in much less time. And if you use the mop cleaning option regularly the inside gets gunked up too.

If you have a hard floor, a broom and mop can't be beat in certain scenarios.

I'd love to see more effort put into the non-cleaning possibilities, like more use of the cameras for security, pet surveillance, intrusion detection (bugs and animals). Or sensors for flood detection, gas etc.

I'd love an attachment for detecting and clean up broken glass.
I bought the S7 Max V (after having been a happy customer of the S5 Max V) instead of the "Ultra" version because I didn't trust the mops would be adequately cleaned and because I didn't want to subscribe to yet another regular cost (bags).  Well, and I didn't want to spend $1500 either.  The non-ultra version robot is exactly the same in terms of features/performance sans the fancy dock and the work that goes with maintaining that.

Both he S5 and S7 have mops that I regularly use(d) in my all-hardwood-and-tile-floor (2200sqft single level) house - and I've never had the gunking up problem you describe.  I use a new mop with every cleaning - and only use the detergent Roborock recommends (Omo)l - perhaps the latter has something to do with mine not gunking up?

Although I'm not yet in the market for a new Roborock, that robotic arm looks promising.  My one complaint about the robot is that it doesn't get close enough to floor boards and, obviously , not at all under any furniture - perhaps that robotic arm will help with both of these.  Oh yeah, if they could make the mopping function even better, that would be appreciated too - despite the vibration thing, it's still not great at remove dried stains (e.g. drips of soda or coffee that weren't wiped right away).

I wish Roborock invented a counter-top mop.  I hate cleaning bathroom and kitchen countertops - if I could just clear them and put a robot to work, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

  • Apple Savings APY increases from 4.15% to 4.25%

Definitely it's not the best deal, but to call it 'uncompetitive' is a bit ridiculous given that the majority of banks' savings rates fall below 4.25% - or even below the previous 4.15%.  And none of those have Apple Savings' convenience of being managed in the Apple Wallet.

As with many things, it's a good idea to diversify: put your money into savings and CD accounts from multiple banks.  While bank FDIC insurance is pretty high and, thus, safeguard most savers, it's always safer to stash away your dough in multiple places.
