What matters most for AAPL shares next week
If you look back at the same time last year, Erik Woodring forecast a significant upgrade cycle due to AI features in the upcoming iPhone 16. I know, because I ridiculed him and other analysts over it at the time. Of course the anticipated AI-driven "super upgrade cycle" didn't happen and now, a year later, we're still waiting for the more significant promised AI features to materialize....as far as I can tell, it doesn't look like there won't be a "must have" AI feature even by the time the iPhone 17 comes around. -
iPhone 17 rumored to get much more powerful cooling system
While I applaud any heat-related improvements in iPhones, I think whatever heat 'problem' iPhones are stated to have is completely overblown. I've had both the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro Max's and never noticed any unusual heat, except the first few days with the iPhone 16 when, presumably, the AI models used on the device were being built. Oh, and my particular EV's wireless charging heats up the iPhone like mad, but I think it's a car problem as Android phones are having the same issue in this car. -
New Parallels update trials x86 Linux & Windows VMs on Apple Silicon
Wow, this is indeed great news - at least for me! Because x86 VMs weren't supported, I had to keep around my x86 MBP laptop so I could build our product for x86 Windows & Linux (and to run TurboTax for Business once a year - as that is only available as x86 Windows app). Now I can finally retire that Mac :-) -
Apple Watch Ultra to gain satellite connectivity, while AirTags will get greater range
"Alongside the high blood pressure detection in the Apple Watch," - AFAIK the Apple Watch has no such feature yet - or is this trying to say the the upcoming Apple Watch will have this feature? With respect to the Ultra, are there any indications blood oxygen sensors will make their return? I still sport the original Ultra because it had that feature and it was since removed because of patent issues. These days, the only reason to get a new watch is when useful sensors are added - certainly not when they're removed :-) -
Apple won't be selling smartglasses for a few more years
“Current speculation is the use of something more like spectacles, rather than an Apple Vision Pro-like device. Processing is said to be handed off to an iPhone or a similar piece of hardware.” If that were really the current thinking at Apple, then there’d be no obstacles! None of the problems you write about after this sentence apply to such a device! If all the computational burden is left to an iPhone and the glasses only act as a display and camera/sensor receiver, why would battery be an issue? If it’s truly AR glasses, why would you need fancy 4k/8k displays since those are only needed for VR!
Google managed to create a decent set of AR spectacles over 10 years ago - with multi-hour battery life. You’d think Apple could do something better with 10 years of miniaturization behind it.
The reason Apple is years from AR glasses is exactly because they ran down the rabbit hole of trying to come up with a standalone product like the AVP.
