Apple calling everything that it released 'intelligent' won't help it catch up
Echoing what @araquen wrote, the author has no basis in fact to state (in the title) "Apple calling everything that it released 'intelligent' won't help it catch up" as there is no other company that is doing what Apple is doing with regards to AI. Who does Apple need to catch up to? Apple is infusing its existing features/functions with useful AI - and that includes the Apple Watch: just because Apple isn't running generative AI models on the watch itself doesn't mean that device's functionality can't be made more intelligent (via remote use of AI models if necessary). -
Goldman Sachs is certain to lose millions when it sells off Apple Card
"Consequently, Apple Card balances are running at $17 billion " - consequently to what??? The previous paragraph talks about GM card balances and how Barclays is likely unwilling to pay asking price given the large charge-off ratio on GM card. None of that has anything to do with Apple Card balances being $17 billion. Poorly written article (there are also a few spelling errors).

Foldable MacBook Pro delayed to at least 2027
I'm pretty sure that a foldable-screen laptop won't have the moniker "Pro". How could it? It'll have less actual screen space - the part you'd look at rather than type on or point with - and we all know how much less efficient on-screen keyboards are than the real thing. I do often wish that Apple either re-introduced a 17+" MBP - or one with multiple foldable screens. You can buy add-ons that'll let you add screens to the left and right of your MBP, but they are clumsy solutions that involve wires, funky stands, etc. Such a multi-monitor MBP would truly deserve the "Pro" name. -
Drivers love CarPlay as car infotainment systems get worse overall
" ...but that could be less about CarPlay, and more about how owners are so unhappy with infotainment systems provided by car makers" - I don't think that's the case. By all accounts, Rivian's and Tesla's infotainment systems are very nice. The problem with all manufacturers' infotainment systems is that they fundamentally can't provide the same level of service as either CarPlay or Android Auto because they don't have access to all the information contained on our phones! How will Rivian ever manage to automatically suggest directions to the dental appointment I have in my calendar? The difference is only going to get more stark as Apple rolls out its AI to Siri. As stupid as Siri currently is, it's already way better than the car's "assistant" - and once Siri becomes more conversational and be able to draw on even more user data (via the models being run on-device), there will be no contest.
Tesla claims to be on the AI bandwagon as well - but it, nor any of the other car manufacturers, have free access to the data on our phones. Only CarPlay and Android Auto do. I especially wish Rivian's CEO was more customer-centric as I really like their vehicles. The guy is smart and should understand this basic issue - his counterpart at Ford has summarized it quite nicely "...the train [of who should provide the infotainment system] has left the station years ago." Rivian and Tesla (and now GM) just can't see past their greed (future revenue from tying their customers to in-car subscription services). -
How the Apple Ring will blow all the other smart ring manufacturers out of the water
hmlongco said:The Samsung Ring is basically a fitness, health and sleep monitoring device. It doesn't do notifications, answer questions, or act as a spy camera. Nor does it need to.
A couple of things that an Apple Ring could do is authentication and payments. For auth, think of an Apple Watch and how you can authenticate it by unlocking a paired iPhone. Once "unlocked", it could authenticate you to Macs, phones, tablets, and even, perhaps, your car or front door.
For payments, just hold the NFC chip to a reader and tap your fingers together.
Have an Ultra and it's a bit bulky for a sleep tracker. Ring might be better. My wife and I both wear Ultras to sleep and neither of us even notices it. Our main complaint is with the inaccuracy of the sleep tracking rather than wearing the watch.
