  • Justice Department demands Google sell off Chrome in new filing

Apple isn't the only company that accepts payment from Google to make Chrome the default search engine

    You beat me to it!

In case article author Charles Martin is wondering why people are specifically quoting that single sentence of yours, it’s because you wrote “Chrome” instead of “Google”. Easy mistake to make.

  • Apple finally accepts that 64GB is inadequate for iPhones and iPads

You hear a lot more complaining about this on tech sites than in the real world. I'm using about 60 GB on a 128 GB iPhone which means 128 GB is ideal for my needs, but I know a lot of normal users who are doing just fine with 64 GB, especially on the iPad. These are people that only use it for basic consumption. You probably won't even find them keeping bookmarks in Safari in many cases.

That said, I do think that 128 GB should be the minimum moving forward as iOS and iPadOS increase in size each year.
Having 60GB out of 128GB used is WAY (!) different than having 60GB out of 64GB used. Fill your 128GB iPhone with 124GB worth of data and then try to update iOS. See how well that works out, lol. :D (Spoiler: Not well, haha.)

I have a 64GB iPhone and I’m consistently hovering around 60GB used (give or take a few GBs). And a lot of the time that’s fine. But anytime I need to upgrade iOS, it takes some creative offloading of apps and deletion of data to get my phone to have enough free space to actually do the update.
I'm curious if you think my comment in any way stated that 64 GB is more than enough for me because I'm only using 60 GB.
I don’t mean this to be rude, but: I wasn’t talking about you and your usage. I was very specifically talking about my own usage. But also 64GB iPhones more generally. I was just using your quoted reply to do so. But I wasn’t talking about you. Again, I’m not trying to be rude. I’m just plainly stating that I wasn’t talking about you.

  • iPhone fold predicted to launch in late 2026 with no Face ID

It would be shocking for Apple not to have FaceID on a foldable iPhone in late 2026/early 2027. The Oppo Find N5 is a foldable phone available right now. When folded, the Oppo Find N5 is almost the exact same dimensions as a iPhone 16 Pro Max. Meaning it’s quite thin for a foldable phone. And the Oppo Find N5 supports fingerprint recognition AND facial recognition. It would be tough to justify the exclusion of FaceID in 2027 when a very thin foldable phone in 2025 can manage it.

  • MacBook Air update arrives with lower starting price & M4 performance boost

    So quick question:
I can buy an MBA under the back to school program currently in the Land of Oz, and it means I can get either a set of AirPods 4 with ANC included for free, or for an extra AUD$100 get the APP 2.

Is the AP4 good enough to not spend the extra on the no doubt better APP?
I just clicked through on the Australia site and… yep, it looks fine. Go to the Education Store section, add the preorder MacBook Air to your cart, add the free AirPods to your cart on the next page after that and it all looks fine. I’m guessing (maybe) the Australia store site has some verification requirements for students or facility (not sure), but otherwise it seems okay.
