  • Apple's iPhone Fold is creeping closer - what the rumor mill says is coming

Beating a dead donkey this is what this is. Another iPhone (yawn): iPhone 16e (aka the Dud) and now the iPhone Fold (another dud). And in another four years: the iPhone Anniversary Edition - 20th Phone. What does it do? Makes phone call, text messages and oh yes the entire back is covered with cameras. Other than that, nada. Other than over-complicating an iOS with myriad functionality that everyone keeps turning off because it is getting in the way of working and eats up gobs of memory.

And, oh yes, let's not forget Apple Intelligence. Which Microsoft shuttered last week is starting to look a lot like the dot.com boom of the Y2K.

Talk about eating the same meal that Steve Jobs cooked all those years ago. Must be surely getting stale by now.

And the new vision: the Vision Pro aka the dead horse.

Apple needs new blood rather than stirring the same pot ad infinitum.
And meanwhile, in the real world: Apple's booming sales keep fueling record-setting revenues and profits, it's the world's most valuable company, its stock price sits near its all-time highs and it just won its 18th straight World's Most Admired Company award. But The Cult of Dead Steve just can't abide a level of consistent, record-setting success that exceeds what Apple achieved under Jobs.
World’s Most Admired Company Awards is… kind of a misnomer.

But yes, Apple has won that award 18 times in a row.
Does that make Apple the Beyoncé of the Most Admired Company Awards?
I don’t understand the reference (joke?). Beyoncé famously only just now won the Grammy for “Album of the Year” for the first time ever in her career (despite having been making amazing music for 25+ years). If anything, Beyoncé the exact opposite of Apple winning the Most Admired Company award for 18 years in a row.

  • iPhone 16e vs iPhone 16: A new Apple Intelligence-powered entry-level option

I wonder how Apple will justify the price come Fall when the iPhone 17 lineup launches… Will they simply just discontinue the 16 since they will be adding a new Air model? I mean, $200 difference between the 16 and 16e is all well and good, but if it’s only $100 difference, then it will make it a harder sell for the 16e unfortunately. I understand the price increase, but I was hoping it would’ve been no more than $529.
No reason why Apple couldn’t just lower the price of the iPhone 16e as well this fall. I’m not saying Apple will do that, but Apple certainly could.

World’s Most Admired Company Awards is… kind of a misnomer. It’s the United States’ most admired companies limited to those with the highest revenue in each industry. Plus a handful of non-US companies from a database limited to 30-ish countries. And then voted on by the executives and directors from those very companies, as well as financial analysts covering those companies.

But yes, Apple has won that award 18 times in a row.

  • Apple thinks the iPhone 16e target market doesn't care about MagSafe

    ranson said:

Do you think people are taking the case off of their iPhone and using the built-in MagSafe magnets to mount the phone to the stand charger? Of course not. Everybody's phone is in a case and it stays in the case for 99.99% of its life. Cases offer MagSafe. People's iPhones are attaching to the stand via the case's magnets, not the phone's. A quick Amazon search shows that popular case makers like Spigen already have magnetic charging cases for the iPhone 16e.

This was the right call by Apple.

MagSafe isn’t just an array of magnets though. It’s a technical specification for wireless charging. Adding magnets to a case doesn’t make a phone MagSafe. It’s compatible with MagSafe, but the phone is still Qi(1) that is limited to 7.5w — while the MagSafe of the iPhone 16 (no-suffix/Plus/Pro/Pro Max) can go up to 25w. The difference between 25w and 7.5w is quite significant. I know not everybody cares about wireless charging (and that’s perfectly fine), but… 25w vs 7.5w is a notable difference.

  • iPhone 16e review roundup: an okay, if compromised, device without a market

The answer: $200 that stays in your bank account (or doesn’t add to your credit card balance).
$200 doesn’t stay in your bank account by buying the iPhone 16e. $600 leaves your bank account by buying the iPhone 16e. It’s a very common fallacy that people make on a daily basis (for purchases big and small). The only way to keep the money in your bank account is to not make the purchase.
The obvious appears to be lost on you.
How so? It’s called “Spending to Save”. (It might have other names as well.) You don’t save $200 buying the iPhone 16e. You spend $600 to acquire the iPhone 16e. It’s a common spending mistake people make all of time.
The logical fallacy you describe only applies if one option is spending no money at all. If the person has $1,000 to spend and can choose between an $800 object and a $600 object, they "save" $200 by getting the $600 object.

What you're describing is what happens when someone gets a coupon in the mail that will save them $20 on a $100 purchase. If they never planned to make that purchase but do so because of the coupon, then they haven't saved anything.
Darn. My second reply here took forever to post (went into auto-moderation like 7 hours ago and only now just popped back out, lol). I wanted to edit/delete right after I posted it (so not to cause any further issues). It was a little rude of me. Sorry to the person I was replying to (that I gave unsolicited lecture to). I’m annoyed at myself for doing it. Sorry.

Edit: I meant to reply to my own reply. But instead I replied Wesley’s reply of my reply. Ugh. I’m doing a good job today, lol.

Anyway, sorry again to “randominternetperson” (the user I replied to originally).
