iPadOS 18.4 released with Apple Intelligence & Mail tweaks

HomeKit users will soon need to upgrade their Home architecture within the Home app.

I know this was rumoured to be a forced move (see iOS 18.4 will force users to upgrade their HomeKit architecture). Is it forced or optional in the final release? I know that the new architecture will render my Series 3 AW unable to control the home.
