Developers, Design Awards, and WWDC on the AppleInsider Podcast
I’m always used to Wes Apple fanboying a little too hard but this episode was a bit much. I almost laughed when at the end of the episode he apologized for being too hard on Apple. 😐
Obviously we just diverge on our opinions some, but his short diatribe calling Apple a public utility (being necessary) and how much some of the bigger apps don’t contribute he goes off on how these billion dollar companies could contribute more (calling it taxing the rich) as if Apple isn’t the largest company in the world valued at 3.5 trillion dollars. Acting like they rely on in app purchases to survive, when it wasn’t even 25% of their revenue in the last year, as if the 30% was a necessity and the only way to lower it would be to have everyone pay 🙄 give me a break. Apple makes a massive profit margin in other categories, and fundamentally yes, I think it’s not too wild an idea to go back to Steve Jobs claim that the App Store wasn’t about revenue, they make hundreds of billions on device sales that occur because of the App Store. Acting like their shareholders need massive dividends is comical. Then claiming Apple is “the least corrupt of the bunch” that pays people properly (while going on later to acknowledge how dependent they are on china, and the low wages there) additional when they hold their “public utility” in a monopoly status.
I like to hear updates on Apple, and think they make a great product, I just don’t love when it feels like the podcast feels a little bit like they are sponsored by Apples PR and can’t consider criticizing the company.Apple does great things. Apple makes great things. Apple even has some great employees, etc etc. but they aren’t a “force for good” they’re a force for profit. Let’s be real.
