  • Apple has renewed sci-fi original drama 'Invasion' for a second season

Easily the worst show on AppleTV+. I still don’t understand how it even got made. I’m absolutely shocked it got renewed. It is objectively awful. Just flat out dumb and painful (and often unintentionally hilarious) to watch.

  • Apple cancels Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 'Mr. Corman' after one season

I watched it because it was creative and I kept wanting to see what would happen… if Josh would get it together. But he never did. The big cathartic moment of him recording drums didn’t really land. So it was basically 10 episodes of people painfully telling him how much of a mopey sad sack he was (or even just a bad person) and him doing nothing to change that or prove them wrong. What was the point? Just to make us depressed?

The FX show “Dave” is basically exactly the same formula but it (the latest season) was SO much better and more fun (and funny) and the big moment at the end where he finally learns not to be a self absorbed jerk may actually bring you to tears.

  • Apple delivers Safari 15.1 beta for macOS Big Sur and Catalina

I hate it so much. I’ve tried both tab views. I actually find compact less confusing but also much less functional. I’m a web developer so I’m often editing URLs in the address bar and in compact mode the address bar / tab has to be clicked to expand and even then its not very big. Also I’m often editing the end of the URL to add a query param or page slug and many times I’ve ended up clicking the stupid lock icon instead and having the SSL certificate window pop up. So I’ve settled on separate mode.

Separate mode is THE WORST! But I need an always visible address bar. But after A WEEK in separate mode I STILL keep clicking on the tab to edit the URL instead off the address bar. That’s because the address bar is STILL small for no good reason. It’s also extremely faint. Zero contrast. And narrow. Why is it so narrow?! Why isn’t it full width?! But if you only have one tab open the tab IS full width?! And it’s an ugly mid grey that my brain keeps reading as “address bar”. I click on the active tab a dozen times day mistaking it for an address bar even though the actual address bar is always visible. Even after a week I haven’t gotten used to it. I keep clicking on the tab to edit the address. It’s brutally confusing and ugly.

Simple fix… in separate mode make the address bar full width (and not completely washed out so it seems almost invisible) and most importantly… make tabs LOOK LIKE TABS! And changed that hideous and confusing mid grey “highlight” design. Ugg.

I also still can’t figure out how to drag a tab into my favourites. Or how to drag it into a favourites folder.

I’ve also had it crash numerous times when dragging a tab out to its own window.

  • 2021 2nd-Generation Siri Remote Review: The star of the show

After 10 days with the new Apple TV and remote I’m returning it. I prefer the old Siri remote. Don’t like this new remote at all. Why?
    • Heavy and uncomfortable in the hand it’s with sharp edges (this was really bothering me)
    • CONSTANTLY activating Siri accidentally when I pick it up. Like… 50% of the time.
    • Power button and D Pad are no use to me as I only use it for Apple TV (not using it to control anything else)
    • Swiping on the D Pad isn’t nearly as nice as swiping on the previous remote
The 10 second skip is much more reliable than touching and pressing the edges of the old remote. I did like that. But otherwise I prefer the old remote. And the scrubbing is cool but it barely works anywhere other than the TV app.

  • 2021 Apple TV 4K Review: Seeking a blockbuster, given a Band-Aid

After a week and a half with the new Apple TV I’ve decided to return it and stick with the previous version. The spec bump isn’t worth the price at all and I actually hate the new remote.

I really wanted to love it but I just hate it. I much prefer the old Siri remote. The new remote is heavy and uncomfortable in the hand with its sharp edges. I was CONSTANTLY activating Siri accidentally when I’d pick it up. ALL the time. The power button and D pad are useless to me since the Apple TV is the only thing hooked up to my TV (I’m never trying to control anything else). The mute button is no big deal (who cares). And swiping on the d pad isn’t nearly as nice as swiping on the previous remote. The only thing I liked about it was that the 10 second skip is much more reliable than touching and pressing the edges of the old remote. And the scrubbing is kind of cool but whatever. It barely works in ANY apps at all anyway other than the TV app. So it’s going back. And I might buy an old Siri remote or two while I still can to have on hand in case my current one ever dies.
