  • Apple Vision Pro vs Meta Quest 3 compared - Displays, prices & graphics

I wonder if the Meta 3 will see a sales jump because of people who get interested in/excited by headset computing when looking at the Vision Pro but then aren’t ready to shell out $3k.

  • MagSafe vs. Qi2 -- Everything you need to know before the iPhone 15 launch

I’m just curious. If the Qi2 standard was based in part on MagSafe and if iPhone15 is MagSafe and Qi2 compatible, why wouldn’t Old MagSafe iPhones also be fully comparable?  Do the magnet circles not match?

The moves are made typically as a cost-cutting measure by the services.

What, they can’t afford the hard disk space?
It’s all about actor’s residuals. While a show remains on the streaming service, there are ongoing payments to the main actors in the show. And they can be quite significant amounts of money.
    Check out: https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/calculating-sag-residuals-17706/

I’m not so sure. I could have sworn that it was about tax law and write offs. For example, while you have a show available for streaming on your platform, theoretically it is enhancing the value of the network. But, if you remove it from streaming, then you can write off a portion of the production costs as a loss because it is no longer adding any value of any kind to the platform.
Incidentally, one of the reasons for the current writers strike is that the residuals are as much as 100 times lower than for network TV shows. If the writers are not lying about this then it would make sense that residuals would NOT be a major factor in the removal of shows from streaming platforms.

Is stating that Qi2 is based on MagSafe the correct way to state that? Isn't MagSafe based on the Qi standard?
From a Jan 10 article here in AI:
“For Qi2, WPC member Apple handed over MagSafe as a concept to the organization. This enabled MagSafe to become the "basis" for the new standard.”

There is some give and take going on with the Qi standard as it evolves over time—you could probably argue it both ways, but it looks like this statement is a reasonable take on Qi2 standard.

  • 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro review: One year later, still worth buying

#1 I have been a fan of the Touch Bar for years. Every time it came up everyone killed it so I got used to liking it in secret. Sounds like we should have been more vocal…

#2 I have only had my M1 Max MBP16 for two weeks. Just today while editing photos (on Photos) I was told to force quit Photos because of memory considerations. I NEVER had that happen on my Intel MBP15 despite running it for months without shutting down. Was this an odd memory conflict, or am I going to have to deal with this regular?
