  • iOS 10 tips: Revert Touch ID from 'press home to wake' back to rest to wake

Off topic, I know, but if we're talking about iOS 10.....I use my iPhone for an alarm clock. Previously when my alarm went off, it was very easy to (in my half awake stupor) to reach over and just slide the screen, without even opening my eyes, to stop the alarm. (Sliding the screen stopped the alarm and gives me the passcode screen but I didn't care, I was already back to sleep by then).  Now you HAVE to find that very small "stop" button and tap it to stop the alarm.

And if anyone is feeling overly generous, can you please tell me how I can stop all the travel time reminders I keep getting for every calendar event now? I never got any before the iOS upgrade. And yes, all my calendar events have "Travel Time" set to None.

  • Apple to debut standalone 5K monitor, MacBook Air refresh, 'pro' iPad software features, report say

Bloomberg means Mark Gurman, who I trust a heck of a lot more than Ming-Chi.

While it's somewhat unexpected, it's not completely out of character to do an Air refresh; they did it with the white MacBooks after the aluminum unibody model had been introduced.
MacBook should replace the 11" MacBook Air. Not the MBA lineup.

The Air is a better computer than the MacBook. Larger display (I honestly wouldn't watch a film on a screen smaller than the MBA), nicer keyboard travel, SD Card and extra ports, better battery life, more performance, magnetic charger. The MacBook has a better display and is thinner/lighter. Swap out MBA ports for a few thunderbolt 3/USBc ports and give it Retina and then you're talking. MB is overpriced for what it is: base model €1,499 ($1,677) in Ireland. Should be offered in 128 GB for $999 (at most). MBA should be Retina only and begin with 128 GB for $1,299 (at most).
My only critique of MB is, keyboard is NOT that great.....
That has been my only complaint since day one. As a touch typist, it slows me way down.....

  • Alleged 'iPhone 7' chassis shows symmetrical speakers, lacks 3.5mm headphone jack

Disappointing if true,  The headphone jack is one of the most important features to me.... Way more important than the camera...  I use it hours every day in multiple locations, connected to different devices (car stereo, large quality headphones I keep at work, small ear buds I use for working out, and multiple home stereos depending on what room I am in).

No other audio interface will suffice,  I am not willing to sacrifice the quality & convenience of a traditional headphone jack, I am not willing to spend hundreds of dollars to buy several dongles or spend hundreds of dollars to change my audio equipment,  And I am not willing to carry a dongle with me at all times.

Its a simple, ubiquitous, quality, standard, with no peer.   Its not like the floppy disk, its not like fire wire.

So if these rumors are, true my next phone will be an android.

I have no idea what android device you would buy, but you can be sure that Samsung (and probably most other manufacturers) will announce they are dropping the headphone jack about 5 minutes after the iPhone is announced and is shown without one.

Because typing on a keyboard with no feedback is horrible?
I wouldn't say no feedback, but the new ultra thin keyboard on the new MacBook (that I'm typing on right now) provides very little feedback and is almost impossible for me to type at my full speed without making a lot of mistakes.  It's the only thing I hate about it. I was hoping they'd keep the old keyboards on the new Pros. I'd switch back to a Pro just for that.

  • Google won't retire Hangouts after Allo launch, plans two-front attack against Apple iMessage

I don't follow Google so this is the first I've heard of Allo. Not sure what they intended with that name, but this is all I think of.
