  • Apple rumored to eliminate 32GB tier with 'iPhone 8,' with capacity starting at 64GB

I take all these rumors with a grain of salt. That's all they're worth. As we get closer to launch the truth will start to come out, but at this point, much of it is laughable. Same old rumors every year that never pan out. Who know's for sure what phones Apple plans to release, and at what price point until Apple says something or there is a real leak a week or 2 before hand. 6 months out, most of this is just garbage as far as I'm concerned.
    Wise man.

Indeed, I'd say that 98% of these rumors don't come true or what actually happens is materially different from the original rumor. If one could actually bet on Apple rumors, you'd bet against all of them and walk away with a pile of money.

I know a lot of people enjoy discussing this sort of stuff, however many of the forum contributed theories are like Rube Goldberg machines.

Best not to lend much credence to these prognostications in any case.

  • Apple places 5th on corporate reputation poll, Samsung drops 42 spots

Gee, there are no telephone companies or cable companies on this list. I wonder why.  ;)

  • Bloomberg attacks Apple TV as failing to be "a groundbreaking, iPhone-caliber product"

Here we go YET AGAIN. Media sources spouting nonsense to generate more clicks.

Guess what? Apple is a more successful business than Bloomberg. And I'm willing to bet that the average Apple employee gets paid more than the average Bloomberg employee. Maybe sour grapes involved as well?

    Just a thought...

Yeah, I'm a little disenchanted with Apple TV. Rather than buy the 4th generation model, I bought a $30 Roku streaming stick. But despite that, it doesn't mean that Apple Inc. is an abject failure as company, it just means that they haven't deciphered the TV industry. For that matter, while Roku is a privately held company, I'm rather doubtful that they are posting big quarterly profits.

I wish news writers would use some sensibility when they put down words in 2017, but I accept the fact that real journalism died in the Nineties.

    self driving cars are dumb.
Yeah, because safety is stupid¡ That's why automatic transmissions/clutches, cruise control, traction control, and anti-lock breaks are worse than when it was all manually controlled¡
    Huh? why all the fire?

If self driving cars were not dumb we would have them all over by now. But bottom line they are not smart enough at this point
Well, you have to start somewhere. You learn to crawl before you walk and before you run. Even Usain Bolt was a clumsy crawler at one point in his life.

It's not like the Wright Brothers Flyer had automatic pilot and an in-flight entertainment system.

That said, Google has been testing self-driving cars for many years on the streets around their headquarters. Have these cars graduated from college? Probably not but they are certainly learning. They are certainly safer than a teenager with a learner's permit or the average driver in the 18-24 age range.

It's unknown if the Waymo platform will be first to market.

There are a lot of companies now testing this technology all over the world and we're not too far away from the day when someone will bring a mass-market autonomous car to Joe Consumer.

  • Apple purged 47,300 broken & outdated App Store titles in October

    blastdoor said:
It's kinda weird that in a curated store these apps are there at all, but I guess it's good that Apple is now cleaning house.
When a developer submits an app to Apple for approval, Apple has no way of knowing if the developer will be vigilant in keeping it updated with the latest iOS and iDevice hardware. They can't predict abandonware in advance. And as time progresses, Apple's idea of what is a useful app changes as it should, reflecting changes to the app marketplace, what's available and how people use their devices. The first five flashlight apps? Great. The next five? Well okay. Now today if there are 300 flashlight apps and two-thirds are them are not being maintained, a good culling is deserved to maintain the App Store's quality level. That's the whole point about periodic maintenance, whether it's brushing your teeth, changing the oil in your car, or raking the leaves. If your regular regimen of periodic maintenance is not enough, sometimes you might have to do a little extra. That's what Apple is doing right now.
