BMW temporarily ships cars without Apple CarPlay
sandor said:rob53 said:What? It’s software related so why does the hardware have anything to do with it? If they can update the software later to make AirPlay work they can do it now.
Why is the article mentioning a chip shortage when the solution BMW is proffering is an over-the-air software update "at some point in the future"?!?
BMW has an awful track record with 3rd party support & i am sure the only reason these vehicles are not shipping with it enabled is because BMW chose not to do it.

Apple could provide Series 1 Apple Watch as replacement for original models requiring repa...

Last month my Series 0 watch screen popped out.
They gave me a refurbished Series 1 Watch after 5 days trying to repair it.
Side note: I didn't realize how vital my Apple Watch was until I had to live without for 5 days waiting for my Series 0 to get repaired.
Go get it fixed.
This is NOT true--Apple isn't universally fixing screens that have popped out under warranty. This happened to mine, I took it to the Apple Store in downtown Portland, OR, and they persisted in insisting I have to pay $199 for a replacement. Total joke--my watch was barely used and the screen popped out from sitting in the sun for an hour. The store manager I spoke with preferred to argue with me about the weather in Portland and how it couldn't have been hot enough for this to happen rather than fix my problem. Given that the Target store up the street was selling the Series 1 watch for $225 (which includes a new band and 1 yr. warranty, vs. no band and 90 day warranty for repaired model), I pointed out I would have to be stupid to pay the $199. HORRIBLE handling of this situation for an early adopter of a product that clearly has known issues. -
Apple offers free repairs for 2013 Mac Pros with defective video cards
This whole system is so out of touch with any supposed "pro" market that it purports to address. What is with a "3-5 day" repair period? If you are a pro, and you've invested $10k or more into a system like this, how happy must you be to have to lose a week of productivity waiting for this? Apple should literally make this a while you wait repair that you schedule, but I guess the system is so woefully complex to service that you have to wait days to change a video card. Just another example why having a strange, semi-proprietary hardware design is a terrible idea for pros. And what's with no CPU updates since intro, max 1tb flash, no retina-level display option from Apple, and probably half a dozen other ridiculous decisions Apple has made with this product. Who comes up with and approves this stuff? Obviously execs with more money than brains, detached from reality.
