  • Angela Ahrendts treats Apple Store employees like execs, retained 81% of workforce in 2015

I wonder does someone search her bag each day as she leaves? I imagine so if Apple treats it's retail employees as executives.  I'll bet she was thrilled with the 9 month Apple Music subscription gift.

    She doesn't carry a bag.
She has no need for a bag.
She wears pants just like the men do.
She carries 10 pounds of stuff in her pockets just like the men do.

  • Apple CFO says 'fair' outcome in Irish tax investigation would be no money owed

No.  This is about unfair competition.  You can't redress that by a negotiated lesser amount, the EU wouldn't allow that as the core issue of Apple being in receipt of a subsidy would still exist.
My thoughts on any potential negotiations is that as any liability would be hampered by the extreme complexity  of tax arrangements in Europe is that the actual amount that would be calculated would fluctuate depending on potentially huge amount of variables.  This doesn't preclude a set amount being asigned. I have seen estimations varying  between 9 billion to a totally eye watering 19 billion.
That's possible.  My take on the Eu Competition commissioner taking so long on this is they are trying to work out the amount and will basically set the amount to be repaid in their report.  It really shouldn't be terribly difficult or complex.  For each year Apple have paid  tax under the 'deal', take the amount they paid Ireland and multiply it by 525% and just add them up.

  • Intel details new Skylake chips hinting at Apple's future 15" MacBook Pro specs

6Sgoldfish is correct. Apple has more nerve than usual pushing a very expensive product out the door such as the 15'' MBP with it's 3 year old chip technology. But every year we get a new iPhone...yipee!
You might regret it if they do update. Given Apple's recent directions I can see them dropping all ports from the MBP except for a single USB-C port, including the headphone jack if the iPhone related rumour turns out to be true. I think the current MBP is pretty much perfect. I don't want to see it shrunk and end up with no ports, no mag-safe and a worse keyboard. It would be nice if Apple didn't shrink battery capacity, for once, and actually allowed for hugely extended battery life.

Ireland can't foot the bill.  The whole point of this exercise (is)that there is a suspicion that Ireland gave Apple, and probably some other companies as well, an unfair advantage over their rivals by not collecting 12.5% of their profits.  The only way to redress that unfair advantage is for Ireland to collect the taxes that they should have collected in the first place.  There is no fine payable to the EU or taxes to be forwarded to the EU.  There is no 'bill' to foot.
If Ireland collects the 'unfair advantage' taxes for the past 11 years... shouldn't they collect interest as well? /s

On a more serious note. You are speculating that the Ireland / Tech Co Conspiracy, once ferreted out by the EU, doesn't have any penaties levied on the conspirators?
I live in Ireland.  Nothing I have read suggests there would be penalties, unless Ireland were to ignore the EU  ruling, in which case it could get costly for Ireland.  There is not the slightest chance Ireland would prefer to be penalized rather than collect an additional large sum in revenue.
