Why does the author mention USB and WiFi for connecting scanners but ignore Ethernet? A wired network connection is always better than WiFi.

with regard to Image Capture, it hasn’t been updated for many system versions now, but in general still works fine. However it does have one shortcoming that annoys me every time I use it. It is just about the only Mac application that doesn’t remember its window size, and always starts up with a tiny window that is presumably small enough that it fits on even the smallest laptop display. If you have a decent sized screen that means that you always have to resize it every time you launch it before you can use it. Very friend very amateurish. 

I can never understand why UPS devices do not specify their capacity, just their maximum output. Surely capacity is a key spec for them (I would argue the most important one)? Even if the manufacturer doesn’t quote this, any review should make a point of saying what it is. I assume the capacity of this unit is 400 Wh based on 30,minutes run-time at 800w output, so why not say as much. Given the figure for capacity it becomes easy to calculate how long it will last in your setup, particularly if you test it using a watt-meter.

Hopefully this will resolve the issue with charging in my 2021 VW Golf? It has never worked since the car was new - you get a message saying "Currently unable to charge the mobile device. Please remove all other items from the mobile phone tray." Needless to say there are no other items in the tray.

In addition when you pick up the phone it has changed to the Wallet and appears to be waiting for a payment to be made.

Because the car is yet to have its first service I have not asked whether there may be a software upgrade to one of the vast number of different electronic modules in modern cars (particularly the Mk 8 Golf, seemingly). But it may be that iOS 17.2 will finally address this issue?

This either proves that doing this stuff right isn’t easy, or that doing it wrong is. Either way it’s a very good reason to stay with Apple.
