  • Apple Vision Pro vs. Sony PlayStation VR 2 - display, processing & design

It will be interesting to the difference in running Resident Evil : Village on these two. PSVR2 gives me motion sickness so I wonder if AVP is better in this regard.

  • EU antitrust chief to Tim Cook: Apple must allow third-party app stores

Surely there’s a way to enable 3rd party app stores while still ensuring Apple to get their usual and well deserved percentage.

Say a new developer account type with this type of signing including a framework for tracking and reporting installs no matter where or how it is distributed.

So Apple bills Adobe a set amount for all end-user installs from their developer account.
    Might be a nice earner for Apple as Adobe would also have to pay Apple for all the pirate installs of their apps too ߘ⦡mp;nbsp;

    Physical purchases?

Well I can go into any supermarket and buy a physical Apple Gift Card and then exchange that for any app(s) I like. No difference except no sellling of things second-hand which isn’t a big deal seeing as apps cost far far less now than software did before the iPhone. It does remind me of Metallica though :)

I’d rather Apple got rid of the free pricing tier and banned all ads from apps.

If Apple allows alternative app-stores that change directly affects every single iPhone running that new version of iOS. It reduces the security of every single device.

I once wrote an app and it was installed/used on more than 100x the devices that it was purchased for. Piracy on iOS is still alive & well so people can install software from places other than the app-store if they have enough will to do so but it means voiding their warranty. To be honest I’m a techie and over the years I’ve been astounded at ordinary people in the street that didn’t work in IT that have had jail-broken iPhones. Cydia does still exist btw.

This whole issue is about money and the only gripes are from massive multi-million dollar companies like Epic/Spotify. The little and the average developer is just fine with things as they are.

“The report on Friday even claims an imminent filing some escape room.”

What is this supposed to mean?

Is this journalism or ChatGPT ?

  • Apple is pushing hard to make the Mac relevant in gaming

Many, many people game on low-end PCs.

I know a teen that does some gaming on an M1 MacMini, and all his mates have PCs - but the M1 actually runs the games he can play on it better than his mates PCs do (faster framerates and better render distance for example).

Obviously the games playable on M1 are limited, so he uses an old Intel Mac with bootcamp for other games and that iMac runs these other games far better than his mates PCs too.

The M1 Mac Mini cost as much when new as the mates low-end PCs but the iMac cost significantly more when it was bought. The equivalent iMac still costs more than the low-end PCs if bought second-hand.

My point is that Apple Silicon does not have to beat the top-end PCs with 4090 GPUs, as most gamers do not have high-end PCs.

I’m pretty sure the M3 would be a great gaming platform if developers would ship games that can run on it - the developers need incentivising/subsidising from Apple imho.
