I trust Apple to keep me, my data and my devices safe.
After 3 decades in IT I have learnt not to trust Microsoft or Google.

What’s the issue here? Is it that GateKeeper blocks it and you don’t want to use a potential workaround in case it has malware?

Just use the internal SSD for the OS and external SSD drives or network server for actual work.
