I'd be interested how Affinity Photo compares with the three. Do you have the app, or can you provide the original shots in full resolution here so everybody can do his or her own comparison with their tool of preference?

Oh there boring comparisons old model vs new model!
What would be interesting is:
- new iPad vs. old iPad Air
- new iPad Air vs. old iPad Pro 11“
- Apple Watch SE vs. old Apple Watch Series 5.

I think the new mini is a fine machine and probably worth the money (in Apple categories of course - no doubt that you will get away with less in the Windows PC world). However, what people are complaining about ist that the entry level bar to an Apple PC has been raised considerably over time: The initial mini was USD 500 IIRC and now we are at USD 800, even taking into account inflation that's a lot more.

i have an 'Early 2009' white MacBook and a 'Mid 2009' 20" aluminium iMac and neither of these make the grade - El Cap is the end of the road for these two.... 

2009 and later means the same thing as 2009 and newer. Later doesn't mean older, it means they were released later in time.

I don't think skywillmott was taking offence at the wording later vs. newer, but at the fact that eraly 2009 iMacs and early/mid 2009 MacBooks are not supported by macOS Sierra, and hence the statement in the article is not quite correct.

I had always believed to be "Sherlocked" meant that the functionality of a program/app was usurped by and included in the operating system (by Apple, in the Apple world). Hence, Spotlight killing Sherlock spawned the neologism of being sherlocked.
