  • Apple sued over 'stage light' MacBook Pro display issue

This sounds pretty legit to me.   Maybe Apple should have just fixed the damned things.   It's not like these are inexpensive machines.   You pay $3000 for a computer, you expect it to work without problems.   And Apple machines used to.   If it's a flawed design, it's a flawed design.    This isn't bend-gate nonsense - this is a REAL issue.  Stop defending the indefensible.  If Apple did what it should have done, then scummy lawyers wouldn't have had to get involved.

I had to have my late 2016 screen replaced, but it was under warranty at the time and Apple replaced it without a problem.   A few weeks later, it would have been a mighty expensive repair and I would have been royally pissed.

  • Facebook says Apple's 30% App Store fee hurts small businesses during COVID-19

Facebook should be judging the entire retail industry then.  Last time I checked, Safeway and Costco also get a cut of sales of what vendors sell in their stores.

    Scumbags.
There's more to it than that.   What all these developers don't realize (or choose to ignore) is that back in the days of physical software, if you sold to a big distributor like Ingram Micro-D, you had to give them around a 52% discount and sometimes as much as a 60% discount.    Apple's 30% take is a BARGAIN.    But what Apple might consider doing is for in-app sales, taking a lower cut on higher sales levels.

  • Some Universal movies to hit iTunes 17 days after debut at AMC theaters

I think it means more for DVD sales than cinemas.
Cinemas became dead to me once they started charging as much for a visit as putting my first borne through private school.
Please. The average price of a movie ticket in the U.S. is about $9.60.   It is far higher in big cities, but before the pandemic, AMC, the largest chain, had a membership program where for about $22 a month (depending upon the city), one could see up to three films a week, including IMAX and Dolby.   That was a great deal.   The other chains had similar programs.

I suppose you'll argue that the snacks are too expensive.   Yes, they are.   I've never understood why Americans can't go 2 1/2 hours without eating absolute crap.   I never buy any snacks when I go to a movie.  I eat before or after at a decent place.

AMC is insane.  They just signed the death warrant for theaters.   Exclusive theatrical windows shouldn't be shortened, they should be lengthened, especially because of COVID.  When theaters reopen, they'll probably only be permitted to fill 30-40% of the seats, so they need more time for the film to play, not less time.

And unless AMC is getting a piece of the streaming revenue, I don't understand what's in it for them.   Why did they cave?

The end of theaters will mean the end of big budget films.   Some people might see that as a good thing, but eventually, everything is mostly going to look like "straight to DVD" films.   Also, you can't tell me that watching a film on a device is anywhere near the quality of watching in a decent theater.   Only a very small percentage of people have even a sound bar, never mind a full fledged audio system and even a 65" TV is not the same experience as seeing a film in a good theater (IMO) and only a very small percentage of people watch on a calibrated device.

  • Apple commits to 100% carbon neutral footprint by 2030

Nonsense.  Apple is already hooked up to the grid even though they claim that the new campus is 100% green energy.  How about all the mining of minerals and rare earth metals taking place in China and the Congo where child and slave labour are used??
how about the thousands of tons of concrete alone used in the base of 1 wind turbine non of it possible without fossil fuels??
How about the millions of birds and bats killed by (many of which are protected and endangered species) wind turbine blades every year???
what about the 1000s of miles of transmission lines from the turbines??
How about the fact that you need 100% fossil fuel back up when the wind does not blow and the sun does not shine???
CO2 is NOT a pollutant!!!!  Each of us almost 8 billion people exhale 2 pounds of it every day!
Biomass is destroying forests globally for wood chips another “green energy “ joke.  Trees that have takes decades if not centuries to grow are being bulldozed over in the name of green energy.
Green energy is a scam.  Wake up people.
So let's not do anything at all because the solutions aren't perfect and they don't eliminate ALL carbon usage.

I suppose you think cancer drugs are a scam because they don't solve all cancers.

Some wood chips do come from forests (although not old growth forests).  Most wood chips come from recycled wood, off-cuts and sawmill residues.
