  • EU antitrust chief remarks about $2 billion Apple Music fine ignores Spotify dominance

    The EU is so hypocritical.

They make it out as though they are protecting the consumers by stopping the Apple monopoly. However they are literally creating rules that ensures their companies are able to make a monopoly on Apple’s platform.

Luckily I don’t live in the EU and can happily buy Apple Watches with blood oxygen sensors and have only the trusted AppStore to deal with.

Its great being at the bottom of the world and not having to deal with idiots creating monopolies they are trying to avoid.

  • European Union smacks Apple with $2 billion fine over music streaming

Here’s what I would do if I was Apple.

Release an iPhone in the EU that is significantly cutdown specifically for the EU market. Include no AppStore and do not allow European developers access to Apple APIs at all unless they go through Apple’s AppStore.

This way EU developers can’t get a free ride, Apple is providing a completely open phone in accord with EU rules, but Apple punishes the EU. Yes users lose out but these EU rules are in fact causing users to lose out anyway.

Either way, when the users realise they are getting a hobbled phone because of the EU they will turn on the EU.

  • Apple cites bevy of scared users to back up its case against the EU DMA

They say ignorance is bliss but seeing as Apple is waving this particular 'user concern' flag it would be nice to know how many actually wrote to them.

Not that anything they wrote was even remotely relevant.

No one is forcing people to use anything they don't want.

I even have huge reservations about the term 'sideloading' as we aren't talking about apps downloaded and installed without any control. We are talking about apps that have been through a store approval process and notarized by Apple (at least under the current proposals).

What is perhaps more worrying is that Apple is actually parading these ignorant claims around as if they represent something.

Alternative app stores can easily be safer than Apple's App Store. There are zero technical limitations to pulling that off. The question is how far external stores will go with regards to vetting and security, not the security protections themselves.

Maybe the EU should fire back with a selection of emails from consumers who complain about Apple not opening up to competition.

First of all it IS side loading because it is being installed sans-AppStore from ANY source in the same way you can download and install on the Mac.

Second, while security IS possible on alternative app stores, they WON’T because the whole point of sideloading is to remove barriers to install.

The great thing about this is that this is only in the EU and the world will get to see how much of a cesspit side loading will be and not go for it elsewhere.

Sadly the EU residents are the Guinea pigs.

  • Apple AI is the focus of an investing firm after Apple Car's death

I believe Apple Car was NEVER a build-a-car project and we’re  already seeing Project Titan.

I think Project Titan is actually CarPlay 2 and probably a major enhancement using AI for mapping.

Apple building a car has NEVER made sense but Apple building a hardware/software platform that manufacturers can adopt and open up to an easy way to get information from your vehicle actually does.

Self-drive cars are cool, and as a motorcyclist I want to see more drivers away from the wheel so badly, but they’re too demanding on existing tech and too fraught with government intervention to be truly an endeavour that Apple should develop.

  • Apple's new RCS stance may have been forced by China

This makes sense more than the EU. The EU is such a bit player in Apple's bottom line but China is where Apple makes most of its money.

Adding support to the Messages app is a minor issue for Apple really. They already support SMS which is less secure and less useful so adding RCS to appease its largest income makes sense.

If I was Apple, I’d still show those messages as green. People think it’s to highlight who the Android users are but it’s literally to reveal those who are using SMS. I’d still leave non-iMessage users as green to highlight they are on a different platform. You’d just see more people in the chat than you otherwise would.

If someone gets all hooey about the colour bubbles without understanding the real reason behind why those exist then that should be on them, not Apple.
