'Diablo IV' skips Mac gamers, and Whoopi Goldberg is mad about it

The reality is that Macs are one of the best platforms for gaming and Metal3 is the reason.
The reason that Macs suck for gaming is 100% on the developers who take the crappy approach of taking a Windows game and wrapping it in Cider and calling it a Mac game. There’s literally NOTHING Mac in this approach. It’s a Windows game running on Linux software and it will always have a performance hit.
Compare the old version of Eve Online to the current Metal based version and the difference is night and day. Then compare that to the iOS version of Eve Echoes and you start to get the picture that it’s not Mac hardware that’s the problem. We’ve been screwed by idiot developers who just treat us as a third class citizen in gaming.
We don’t need AAA titles if this is their approach. We need games designed specifically for Macs that makes people want to game on Macs that leave Windows PCs and gaming consoles in the dust. We can do it if developers don’t develop for the money but develop to showcase their talent. Ego is a massive driver and will be the only way Macs can get out of their gaming doldrums.
Developing for the Mac with Metal et. al., takes expertise and effort to port existing games that aren't using Apple's APIs.. It also means that there's a different code base to test and support. As a business decision, If the developer doesn't take the cost into account and doesn't think they'll make up the effort in sales, then a port to native technologies on the Mac won't get done regardless of the "ego" strokes of saying "I ported to the Mac and it runs so much better".
Use of high level frameworks mask that effort over and can be a much more "justifiable" - but as you say it's at the expense of performance.
It will be interesting to see in practice how well the porting toolkit works to reduce the costs/efforts to port to Mac native technologies.
Mac users will pay for games which means developers are losing money by keeping Macs out of the loop. But Mac users are decerning and won’t buy titles if they are a hassle. Cider is the biggest reason Mac users don’t buy games. It turns good games on PCs into crappy games on the Mac which turns people away from a potentially great gaming platform.
Mac developers need to stop with status quo games and build limitless games to showcase the Mac. Let’s see if they have the balls to give it a go. -

Microsoft found a macOS exploit that could completely bypass System Integrity Protection
By helping to make macOS more secure they also help to make Windows more secure. Mac users tend to be quite blasé about viruses etc which is why Apple built checkers into the OS and his it from end users. But a great deal of Windows viruses are spread by Mac users forwarding on infected files to Windows users.
By helping to fix security issues in macOS, Windows has one less attack vector hackers can use to infect their machines. -
AI could lead humanity to extinction if not controlled, claims experts
Everyone has been watching far too many movies.
The end of the world at the hands of AI is NEVER going to happen.
We don’t know much about human intelligence and there is no way we could ever get a programmer to come close to programming a true AI.
The problem is that everyone is so tied up in the unlikely negatives of AI that they don’t see how AI is solving complex problems that have plagued us for decades.
Apple has effectively used AI to fix the problems associated with OCR. OCR has given us “wingdings” translations since it’s inception that it’s pretty much useless. But with AI Apple allows us to select text from any image and work with it. I’m now able to read the dash in my wife’s van. I can now read the text in a Tamiya model instructions.
The same can be said for dictation which is now allowing disabled people far better access to technology that can give them a life they’ve never been able to have before.
ChatGPT is not really AI but is a good start in moving search engines to where I’ve wanted them since I first used Altavista, Ask Jeeves, Dog’s Bollox, and early Google. All ChatGPT is doing is giving us information based on what information it has. If it is giving us racist, misinformation it says more about what we’re letting on the Internet than ChatGPT and AI in general. -
ChatGPT might quit the EU rather than comply with regulations

The May 10 Lancet published the following article, along with detailed supplemental addendum showing the interaction with ChatGPT which anyone can then reproduce to verify the results.
The dangers of using large language models for peer review
ChatGPT responded with totally made up material, sounding quite authoritative.
Banning ChatGPT would seem a good idea. It would give alternative AI systems which actually can tell the truth an opportunity to be developed -- if that can be done.
Large Language Models like GPT-4 are inherently lying machines.
They lie because most of the information provided to it lies. Think about how many articles exist touting the dangers of AI verses how many articles tout the benefits. If all AI has to trawl is nothing but lies and misinformation then that is all the results it will spew.
The old programming adage exists that rings so much truer with AI:
If crap is entered then that is what AI will spew outGarbage in - Garbage Out
