Comparison: 4K 60fps video shot on iPhone 8 Plus vs. Panasonic's Lumix GH5 mirrorless came...
AI videos usually annoy me -
but this one was happily the exception. Really a lot of info that would've taken an age to explain in text - presented clearly ina short and to the point video.
I love the the utility of having the iPhone camera on me all the time. And under good conditions I can get some some great shots - but with a 1 yo toddler 'good conditions' are pretty rare now. I noticing most dads/mums getting a separate camera like the Panasonic for use at parties, family events etc.
i was kinda hoping the 2017 iPhone range would solve this - but I'm going with 'nah'.

Tim Cook email claims Mac mini 'important part' of Apple's product matrix
MacPro said:I'd love my mac Mini a lot more if it was easier to swap out the internal HD and RAM ... jeez what a PITA on my late 2012 i5, 4GB RAM model. I use it as a headless a server for Plex and Home sharing. It is soooo (f****g) slow I have to upgrade something. I don't mean its serving operations, it works fine, I mean doing anything on it directly. I can go for coffee while waiting for it to open System Preference for example. What have folks found to be the best bang for the buck, SSD or RAM or both?
If I had the time/money I'd also replace the ageing HDD with an SSD - but more for reliability than performance (that drive is seriously old for a consumer grade HDD), though I'm certain it'll help with performance too. -
Proof of concept phishing attack mimics iOS popups to steal user passwords
Password in settings is no good - I want to be prompted for my password so my niece and nephew don't change/buy things. The app dialogs should be different to the system ones. I've never liked the system dialogs - but it'll be 'safer' to change the 'app dialog' apearence (e.g. Have the app name appear somewhere there). -
Review: Infani Smart Baby Monitor
We are new parents - and won't be buying this. We use a wireless / video (and heart rate sensor under the mattress) device with a dedicated monitor.
These 'wireless' units all have non-existent security which worries me initially.
So I looked at iPhone based units - the problem is that your phone is a lousy monitor. Between TXT/WhatsApp, sleep tracker/feeding tracker, phone calls, googling everything etc - the phone is busy enough - and overnight we just want the monitor playing away so we can glance and check on the precious little bundle.
I did see one manufacturer supplied both both a dedicated monitor and an iPhone app - that's probably the way to go.
I like the the radar thing on this - possibly more reliable than the under mattress sensor - but tech companies need to get on board with proper medical certifications. You can't have it both ways - advertise health and safety and then 'all care but no responsibility'. -
Google could pay Apple up to $3B to hold default search status on iPhones
I run a small IT company and we recently stopped google advertising. Purely by coincidenc - google then demoted our place in their non-paid search results. Which clued me in to the fact that all their results are now in fact paid advertising- and rarely the 'best' result at all. So I switched to using Duck Duck Go for my searching and the results are almost always better (though a few times I've had to resort to dial up google search manually to satisfy my conscience that I haven't missed something...).
